They don't work, do they? So far I've only been able to lock and unlock one.
Would make a good storage for keys, jewellry, notes and such.

Keys would be good, but I don't think its possible to store objects. (I wish it was! I so want a weapon and armor rack for my barracks...

)
But they should definitely store resources if they don't already...one of my chars was thinking of building a desk for their office and then a lockable drawer to go along with it. They could store iron or steel in it, to pay their workers with.
I guess the chest would work just as well though, and it's actually easier to make.
(Does that make since? Theoretically you could store an entire body in a chest, and it takes less iron and only a couple more days then a drawer....)
Of course I guess a chest isn't lockable...

For the same reason that the lockable drawer doesn't work, probably - no code in place for lockable storages.

Does that mean the mailbox doesn't work either?

Up.
Lockable furniture would help those willing to run an inn but worried about giving keys of rooms, as long as you can break and repair the lock easily in case of need (the customer ran away with the key).

It's not a case of it not being useful, just a case of not having the code to support it.

Mmh... maybe as start point, an almost static vehicle-type object with 0 passenger weight effect?
You may still move it around, but it would be rather slow. So no: "Hey! That thief is escaping in my
armoire!"
Tho vehicles don't work inside buildings, travelling from one room to another and so.
