Possibility of unbreakable temporary time locks

Postby SekoETC » Tue Oct 03, 2006 2:24 pm

Some time ago I came to think about this:

If you load a bicycle so full that it can only be entered when carrying 0 grams, then drag an item inside, after the item has been dragged, no person can enter the vehicle until the item has crumpled to dust.

An ideal item for this would be a bone knife or something else that deteriorates fast. Calculating the exact time of deterioration might be a bit hard, but that may be discovered through ingame experimentation (build a bone knife/bone needle, leave it to rot and observe how many days/hours it takes to crumble). A lock like this could not be broken through any ingame means.

Naturally it would be possible to sabotage this temporary lock by dragging inside new items in a better state of repair, or ones that wouldn't deteriorate at all, making the vehicle permanently inaccessible, but that would hardly benefit anyone. Besides people would be more likely to assume that there is a corpse, since I have never heard of anyone using means like this in game.

The question is, is the abuse of this functionality against the game rules, and if one were to discover a bike jammed like this, would the ProgD remove the jamming item as if it were a corpse. :?:

As a rule we do if requested

The intention always has been to allow people to drag from vehicles/buildings as well as into them but it's never been written - So ProgD will clear these if requested.

It's not therefore an abuse - as there is a way it can be overcome

Most moveable objects can be dragged - for instance bodies

Wouldn't a simple fix for this to add some kind of 'check weight-limit of target locaton' process before a dragging project completes?

I'm sure that's already done for characters - as you can't drag people into full vehicles/buildings?...

A check wouldn't work because the bike would only be overweight if someone was sitting on it.

Yeah!
...How about always leaving the minimum of 60kg space while dragging anything to anything? This way you could always retrieve them, provided that you got the key. You could still enter a place that would leave less than 60 kilos after a person entering, but this would have to be done by walking through the door, not by being dragged.
