Postby Phalynx » Sat Sep 23, 2006 12:29 am

:?: What are you referring to? Where did you see this?

Aah, I get it, I think ... we implemented projects that progress automatically, without human intervention. So you can start them and wait until it is finished, without having to work on it.

Baking bread - oven

Automation : Automatic ( was Manual)

Here
Can someone explain the practicalities of this? Can bread be left in the oven and another project be worked on. It would be nice if drying dung/meat/herbs could undergo a similar process...

Yes. Projects can be either manual (standard projects), automatic (progress automatically as if 1 person of average skill were working on it, but the project cannot be joined), or both (an automatic project that people can help out on to increase the rate). Automatic projects for the drying rack are planned, and may see implementation in the near future.

And we're discussing in the RD what can, cannot, and should not be automatic... so it'll be a gradual effect in game... my advice, watch *edit: the link Sho pointed towards.

Rather, watch the database changes reports on http://www.cantr.net/mwiki/index.php/Category:Database_changes - I am not guaranteeing, nor do I expect anyone else to guarantee, that the wiki as a whole will stay up to date with that.

Why is salting carrots automatic and salting meat manual? Shouldn't smoking meat be automatic also? What about drying dung?

Salting carrots is manual. Salting meat and smoking meat do not need any increase in effeciency. They already are powerful enough, and totally dominate the food preperation market.

Smoking meat and salting meat been manual can be justified as the meat requiring turning and watching to ensure that it doesn't get contaminated and ensure it's equally preserved.

No, it isn't. Better check your code.
