1619-0.35: a man in his thirties says: "Çäðàâñòâóé. ß Ñàíÿ. À òû îòêóäà?"
I assume there must be something I can do with firefox to make this at least vaguely recognisable... it may be russian?

In Firefox, look under View -> Character encodings. You can switch between Western ISO-blah blah, UTF-8, etc. The other player may be using an odd character encosing scheme.
If that fails to fix it, check what fonts you have enabled on your system. You can do this through the Control Panel in Windows XP.
I have this problem all the time with my Chinese characters. It is getting annoying.
