504 Report on the phone

Postby ColormeGreen » Wed Jul 02, 2014 3:19 am

For the last two days, my phone can't seem to access cantr. I get a 504 error, but I ONLY get it for cantr. I don't get it for any other website.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? I'm a dunce when it comes to smartphones, so you might want to address me like you'd address your grandparents on the subject. I have a Galaxy S3, and to my knowledge, I'm using the Chrome browser. I was going to try uninstalling it and re-installing it, but my phone won't let me un-install it... I guess because it was one of the original apps on the phone. (If that's considered an app? I'm not really sure.)

I don't know what else I could say that would help... any tech geniuses ... if you need more info, let me know and I'll do my best.

Have you tried it with just the internet browser? Like... Not chrome? Mine works perfectly fine.
You're entitled to your wrong opinion.

I don't know how. *blushes * I'm guessing I'd have to install another browser? I think I've used 'just internet' on my phone before, but I hated the interface, and I'm not even sure how I did it.

Go figure... after two days of this happening consistently.. I just tried on my phone and now it's working. :/

Still... if anyone knows why my phone did that for two days, I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

A 504 error indicates a Gateway timeout.

Given that I (and many others) have been accessing the site the last few days with no problem, the error isn't on the server where Cantr is hosted.

Since it appears to have fixed all on its own, I suspect it might have been a temporary DNS issue. If it happens again, you could try the following:

1) Try to access Cantr from another source, if it works, then it isn't the Cantr server and you can go on to step 2
2) If using Wifi - reset your modem/router
3) Download a utility to change DNS server on the phone (this will only work if rooted and on wifi)
4) If not on Wifi/or uncomfortable doing above, try restarting the phone.
5) Contact the service provider to let them know that you are having a problem accessing a site (only if completed step 1 and verified site is actually up).

Or...just wait it out.

I'll google whatever the heck a DNS is. However, I did want to say that this was happening with several internet sources. I move around a lot during the day, so this was through the wifi of three locations, AND even trying to use my data instead of connecting to a wifi source. My own personal wifi, I know, was working. This considered, I'm guessing option 4 would be the best for fixing my problem? (If the fix is that simple, awesome!)

Thanks for the informative response!
