Building name length

Postby Rusalka » Thu Sep 02, 2010 7:51 pm

What is maximum length of a building name? And what about secondary name?

You could try to find that out in game.

255 but special characters might take more than one character.

Are You sure Seko?

I just set up a project with a building name (2nd position) which is 265 chars (probably even more, cause I used polish letters) and it looks like it's working.

Just wondering if I'm going to generate some error when I finish this project...

No, I'm not sure. That's just the number mentioned in the db, it might not correspond to the actual amount of letters. I'm never sure of how those things work.

The letters might be truncated upon completion. I made an over-limit sign that read correctly on the project, and even read correctly upon completion, but when I viewed it a second time, it had truncated.

Well, I just checked how it works for new buildings and there is an error message when it's more the 255 chars. However there is no error message when I try to change name of existing building.

I will risk my character's work to check what will happen ;)

It can be changed manually in the DB, so if it's messed up, perhaps someone would be kind enough to manually change it so you don't waste your time again.

The details of a project is max 512 chars. This contains the descriptive text for the resulting object as well as its type, initiator and some more stuff.

The descriptive text of an object is max 256 chars.

This means you could probably enter some 450+ characters into the project, but it would only use the 256 first characters when the project completes and the object is created.

Well, I finished my project and the name has been cut into 239 chars. I guess polish letters eat more space then I expected.

BTW, the name entered to be a 1st sign, jumped into 2nd position (Building extension) Does it mean that I can't change the first name of an extension? Ther is no option for that in the menu (I used paintbrush)

It sounds pretty weird if changing the name isn't possible... I don't think it should be like that.

I guess I know what is going on here. I renamed "schowek" into "schowek" and then when I tried to change name from "schowek" into something else, the new name is shown only as a sign, and primary name is still "schowek".

Is there a way to clear the field so it shows a dynamic name?

EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out myself ;)
