We thought, when someone was alone in a room, and they heard a knock, they would be able to tell that the knock came from the other side of the door, really.
We call it common sense, not 'more sense'.
If the knock had come from your side of the door, you would have gotten something like: 'You see a man in his twenties knock on the door to...'.
If the knock had come from your side of the door, you would have gotten something like: 'You see a man in his twenties knock on the door to...'.
