log cabin

Postby Wilmer Bordonado » Tue May 23, 2006 12:28 am

We Spanish Players were discussing about the building "log cabin" in our forums, and some doubts have appeared... Now I'm posting this message here to share our doubts with the rest of the community, with the hope of finding the correct answer.

It is said in the Wiki that a "log cabin" needs 50000g of timber to be built. It seem to be a giant quantity, everytime stone building needs exactly the half of it, and considering stone is a raw material which can be collected without any special tool, while timber is a raw material that can only be collected using some particularly tools.

Well, the point: Is it enough to collect 50k of timber and have the proper tools to build up the "log cabin"? Or should I process that timber into "small-medium-large logs"? And if so, which amount of each type of logs are necessary?

The questions are because it's known that timber is used to make logs, and so the building is called "log cabin", perhaps that 50k of timber must be processed before of starting the project, and the Wiki info is just wrong.

Thanks for helping us.

Start a log cabin project and check for yourself - the in-game project descriptions don't lie.

Thanks, Sho. Just what it's called a "smart answer" to "stupid questions"

50k of timber + a hammer + an axe = Log Cabin :!:

But let me ask -in the same stupid line, surely- why a log cabin requires too much of a material that it's too hard to collect?

It depends on how you look at it. It takes the same time to gather 50k timber with an axe as it does to collect 25k stone with a pickaxe. I would guess that was the reasoning behind the cost. The log cabin was implemented before the addition of logs, and as such, it may see a revision where at least some of the timber is changed into logs.

While it takes the same amount of time to gather 25k stone with a pickaxe as it does to gather 50k timber with an axe, the building can hold 5 times as much as the log cabin, as the log cabin holds only a little more than a shack. The building also holds over three times as many people.

Building a log cabin would be to do it "because you can". There is no benifit to the item, it's an object of conspicuous consuption.

If the numbers were changed to reflect the days of effort put into it better, maybe it would be worth something, but as it stands, it's a BIG, expensive shack.

Well, if you are where there is no stone... then it is build it because you have the material to and don't have to travel to get it.... Build a log cabin inside the log cabin.(if you can..?is there a log extention?).. build several if you wish... then it holds more and more people.

Almost, but without stone, you can't make even a stone axe, much less the smelters to make iron or steel to make real axes. You woun't be building ANY log cabins.

Other than that, You're right.

Depends... carrying enough stone to make an axe..takes 1 cantrian.. enough to build a stone building? What would be the point of carring that much stone to an area with timber? Mind you...I have only seen 1 place with Timber anyways.

Doesn't every place with timber have wood already anyway? So why not just build a cottage?

No, it doesn't. I know of a place where were only mushrooms and timber.
