Step dance shoes. But would it be technically possible to use them while they're being worn?

You need a better description....if your trying describe a string instruments.... ummm. i guess it is the GuZheng(Chinese)/Komun-go(Korean)/Koto(Japanese)
or Asian Zither....

Anyways....I suggest contrabassoon...if no one has suggest it yet.

Here are a few I thought could work given the materials I've noticed in Cantr so far:

- resources
* tools (not very good at those, so suggestions of tools are pretty ropey)

Flute
- a few grams of large bone
* knife

Bass Flute
- a few more grams of large bone
- maybe a few small bones too
* knife

Metal flute
- steel
- bit of silver (for silver plate)
* some sort of tools

Silver Flute
- silver
- tiny bit of steel
* some sort of tools

Clarinet
- some reeds
- some wood
* knife
* chisel

Oboe
- more reeds than clarinet
- less wood than clarinet
* knife
* chisel

Bassoon
- more reeds still
- lots of wood
- a bit of steel
* knife
* chisel

Recorder
- wood
* knife

Violin
- wood
- sinew or something for strings
- resin (to go on the bow)
- fur (well, horse hair usually I think) for the bow
* knife
* chisel
* needle

Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Guitar- as for Violin but different amounts, and guitar needs no bow, so no resin or fur.

Drum
- wood/steel
- hide to stretch over the top
* not much
- maybe could use bones instead?

Tambourine
- same as drum but smaller and needs a bit of steel for ringing bits.

Bell
- wood/metals/clay
* nothing for clay apart from firing it afterwards in a kiln or something similar
* some sort of chisel for wood/metal

Glockenspiel
- mainly wood
- steel

Tubular bells
- glass?

Woodblock
- wood
* no tools required

Accordian
- wood
- hide
* needle
(ok, maybe they're a bit more complicated that that!)

Brass instruments:
- difficult without brass.... but I guess some other metal could be substituted instead to give you trumpet, cornet, trombone, horn, tuba, euphonium etc. Add reeds and get saxophones of various sizes (soprano-baritone)

Baton for the conductor
- reed
* knife

Theramin
- suggested earlier but yep, if you can have radios in Cantr then theramin is no more advanced (but much cooler!)

Banjo
- wood
- hide
- sinew (or some stringed item)
* needle
* knife/chisel

Maracas
- wood
- rice
* knife

Ocarina (as suggested earlier by someone)
- clay fired in a kiln or similar
- or wood maybe
* knife (or nothing for clay)

A lot of the above (like the flutes) can be made to various standards depending on the resources used.

Can't think of many others at the moment, but if I do I'll edit them in later.

Psyman, thanks for the thought and effort is Suggestions for New Instruments, not Suggestions for Existing Instruments. ;) Many of those can already be found in the build menu.

Having said that, an actual metal flute would be cool. Currently Cantrian flautists have not advanced much beyond the recorder.

I still want to get th banjo through! And how could I hate a glockenspiel, really, though we have a severe shortage on objects starting with X, so the English characters might have to play a xylophone instead. ;)

And finally, Agar said he would kick my ass if I added a Theramin......

Sorry, forgot to check how many of them already existed :oops:

Also, I got xylophone and glockenspiel the wrong way round.

xylophone is the one with wooden notes that you hit.

glockenspiel is the one with metal notes that you hit.

So should be

xylophone:
- mostly steel
- a bit of wood

glock:
- mostly wood
- a bit of steel

Oops, for musical instruments.

But yea, dueling banjos.

Add banjos and I will create an inbred character just for the banjo. May find another inbred to duel with. He he

How about a conch that occasionally appears on the beach now and then?

But you can`t carry a piano. So it should be a machine instrument.

If piano will be implemented I want a grand piano. Very very stylish instrument.
