Its a suggestion from pie. RUN!

Postby Pie » Mon Jul 11, 2005 10:56 pm

so, i have a question. how can you carry all of the materials to make a longboat? shure, maby we cant fix that, but why arn't we building a longboat with beams, and crossbeams? i mean, do you even know how to build a boat? you need a mast, don't ya? DON'T YOU NEED SAILS TO BUILD A LONGBOAT? NO! NOT IN CANTR. WHY, I DON'T KNOW! AND I DON'T LIKE IT!

so,in real life you make a main beam for a longboat using a wedg,(if you saw the wood you would be breaking the fibers, if you used a wedge you would be going with the fibers, so the main beam can bend with the sea.) hammer, and 500g (its a gues, but it should work)wood, and maby, 250g wood for all of the crosbeams.(though reallisticly it would vary.) and you would need a mast, and maby, oo, 100-500 grams of cloth for the sail. and it would take 15 days to make all of the stuff, and one day to put it together. it you think about it, it's only one more day of work in cantr to build it, but the new lands department needs step it up. really, that land that i found is totally bare.

Er... longboats don't have to have sails, or a mast.

And I am opposed to needlessly maiking things more expensive to make. More complicated maybe, but only if the materials and tools required are the same.

Things are slowpaced enough already without making them moreso...

Uh... well, those are big longboats, I don't think these are that big.

do the beams have to be big? And every boat needs a sail, if they didn't, they would just be drifting in the whater.

but why can't we make masts on ships(have it be optional) and make them faster. and do cantarians have rows when they build a ship? and can they build them? and how can a boat move if it doesent have a sail, or people with pddles, rows and "those things"?

Yes, I do believe that the rows just come with the ship... to save complications. And the larger ships do have masts, as far as I'm aware.

well then the larger ships need to have sails, and you can put in extra sails in certain ships, like a longboat only has space for one mast, but a gallion can have three, i think. and ships should go faster or slower depending on the amount of people in a boat. and also, there should be a project"sailing ship"
or "rowing ship".

They are oars if they use a lock (a device that attaches the oar to the boat), otherwise they are called a paddle.

Try an Evenrud. Works much better.

EDIT: It's spelled Evinrude. Thanks for the proofreading, Talpus! It's nice to know somebody bothers to think about some of the stuff I write. :D

Meh. I've only been on a boat once, and it wasn't even mine...
