Project Having sex

Many times you walk into a room with two people doing nothing or resting or even doing something but you still wonder if they are doing it, and how you should react. It's quite irrealistic you don't see what they're doing. Ok, maybe I have too wild an imagination but my character has at least once run into a room where such action was in process. And not counting having people already doing it in the same location, only through whispering (save for embarrassing blurts in public).

The solution. Project Having sex. Is like resting but can be started also on the ground. (By the way resting should also be possible to be done on the ground but...) The project will vanish when there is nobody participating. There can be just one person (masturbation) or two people, or maybe even several. It's descent enough to give no terrible trauma to the player bumping into the situation.

People will select themselves if they want to join the project or not, thus no one can be forced into it (unless threatened and the player makes their choice of allowing the character to be raped). One problem though is if someone is already doing it then technically joining in without their permission might be possible. Maybe an attempt to join would give the starter a message: A man in his twenties is trying to join project Having sex. Accept?

Would this stop people from doing it on public places? you ask. No. To people outside the project they don't see it starting or finishing or people joining in. Only if they check the activities list, or the descriptions of a character engaged in such action. Clever, huh?

Now at the moment there would be no results but later pregancy and diseases could be added. There might be high tiredness increase, that's possible to add even now.

I can see the arguments for this, but I think its a bad idea. The good roleplayers would use it sensibly, like brothels, marrigages, private sex, etc. But some of the newspawns would abuse it similar to the ** rapes we have.

I'm really not convinced. The whole thing about asking permission to join in is way over complicated - just limit it to 2 people. I can see what you're trying to do, but I don't think it'll really work. Unless there's a point to the project, like the possibility of babies, or if it leaves you feeling rested or something, then people won't use it.

I think I've seen suggestions elsewhere about editable character descriptions, which I think would be a better idea. It could be limited to, say, 40 characters or something, and people would be able to put things like "is engaged in having sex with John". That would give you what you need, and it would also be applicable in other areas, so someone who isn't just sleeping, but is sulking could input "is sitting staring at the ground looking glum". I'm still not convinced we need it, but that way would be much more flexible. I've just realised that it would also be open to abuse, for instance if someone put "is engaged in having sex with John" in their description, but John really doesn't want to be involved, so maybe it's not a good idea after all.

*groans* Cantr is not about sex. There is no purpose to sex in cantr, as there is no procreation. We can't regulate what people do in their spare time, but I will throw myself whole-heartedly against ANY effort to hard-code any aspect of sex into the game.

For similar reasons to west. No problem with private RPd sex - but I do not want to see unfinished 'having sex' projects in the middle of town. Keep it to roleplaying only, definatly not as part of the game. If people can't be sensible enough to RP it whilst in a private space - that's their problem, and making it even more public via a project would make the problem so much worse.

While we're on this topic, have the GAB given any thought to the allowability of roleplaying actions through private chat?

I wouldn't mind seeing private chat eliminated, actually, in favor of having to find private places, or passing notes. It'd be interesting, and cut down on people doing actions that only one person can see. Two people having sex in the middle of the town square while to everyone else they are standing next to each other talking is hardly realistic behavior.

The only way I would be in favor of hard-coding such a thing would be as part of the whole procreation or baby implementation. Which I hope we do at some point.

A friend of mine, a student biological psychology, once explained me how most if not all behaviour in nature (of humans, animals, plants and micro organisms) can be explained by two basic rules:

1) Survival of the species.
2) Survival of the individual.

Right now there is barely any reason to have sex in Cantr. Considering people spawn instead of being born, sex has no value for the survival of the species (humans). And sex does not prolong the individual's life either. Well, ofcourse you could claim that sex makes people happy and happy people live longer, but come on....

When babies are introduced to the game we might want to reconsider this discussion, depending on HOW babies are going to be introduced; are babies to be born or do babies spawn? When babies will be born I wouldn't call the project "Having sex", but rather "reproducing" or perhaps even better "making a baby". It sounds a bit less.... vulgair, I think.

Yes, what about "Copulating" or something else. Project having sex? Really, man.

But the thing is about introducing babies, how would you go about it? Would your character have to go in cue to be born, until someone has sex, and then waits for like ten days or something?

And what if people reproduce faster than their are characters coming to be? What then?
