Trains, planes and telegraph lines.

Postby Schme » Sun Mar 20, 2005 9:23 pm

Alright. I have been playing Cantr for some months now, and have not done all that much, in fact, not even left my original town, but I do understand how the game works.

And as such, have a few suggestions. I'll try to keep to the point.

1. Railroads.
We have cars, helicopters, why not railroads?
You could transport tones of people or goods at a time, very far, very quickly.

You could lay the rails alongside the road, just like improving the road.

And make the trains and whatnot.

Of course, it would take a very very long time, and be very very expensive, need tones of tools, and of course fuel(coal, wood, gasoline?)

But for the persistent and longexisting society, it would be great.

Just look at what the railways did for Africa, Europe, and Canada?

Oh so ghettofabulous.

2. Telegraph lines.
Whenever one has to communicate with a distant city, or an outpost, you always have to send some guy, and it takes forever.

What if we could build telegraph lines? It's devilishly simple. Not to high tech, either. All that would happen is the guy on the one end sends a telegraph, it is printed out onto some sort of paper, or you could say

Bill signals "Insert whatever he is saying here" for you deceiphering the telegraph.

We could, like the railroads, build this along the same way as the roads.

Again, it would have to be very expensive and hard, but think of the possibilities! It would be wonderfull.

3. The biggest suggestion (this will never ever happen, I understand that)

Put all the languages together. Have the person specify there native language at the start, put them in a REGION where are more likewise people. I mean, it would be so cool! And think about real life. Is there just one language in real life? No. It would be nice. I know it won't happen, but It would be damn cool, wouldn't it?

The suggestion that you think will never happen...well, let's just say you might be surprised what's out in that great big world of Cantr.

I can't recall where the thread was, but I read that there are a couple language groups that mix and they're having to learn each other's languages.

I think railroads would fit in just fine if it was REALLY expensive. Just another road uprade, say... Superhighway w/ rails or something.

As for the telegraph, I imagine it would have to have a few catches to it. I'll leave that up for the more "swift thinking" forumers here.

I'm too busy thinking of how I'm leaving to go to Cuba at 8:30 tonight :P

I think it's been posted in the forums before about the language groups, but think about it. There are different islands out there, right?

Yeah. All the language groups are on the same world... some are closer than others, and I have heard that they have intermingled before.
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

We have cars. That's it. Oh, and boats.

No Helicopter. There IS a Helicopter, however, it can not be constructed. You CAN make a helicopter engine... I think. Although... why? Just to waste resources, I guess.

Trains are something that everyone (or the majority of players) wants. So. It'll appear. Sooner or later. Hopefully. Wink, wink.

Telegraph lines, same situation. And electrical lines as well, perhaps. It all comes down to time, plausability, and the amount of whining from the players.

I can sense many going "I DON'T WANT TELEPHONES AND ELECTRICITY!", because they think Cantr is a "medieval" game. In which it is not. It is a society simulator, simulating... society. Which includes evolution. So shove it. Yes, we have all medieval weapons, but I don't care. Maybe we'll have guns soon. And armour as well. HMM, JUST MAYBE.

Then you'll all quit.

Hopefully.

And finally, we can get rid of Nick. HORRAY!

I mean.

I'll shut up now.

(As for the languages, allow me to explain. The game world is not like... say... Tibia... with seperate servers simulating the same land. Cantr is actually all ONE world. All the langauges are in the same world. It is very, very possible, to meet someone playing another language, and it's very, very ENCOURAGED, too. Because that simulates society. Cantr's goal, duh. It's not like France and Europe were in two dimentions and... okay, forget that thought. Point being, it's all one happy world.)

Well there you go......I had no idea. I had just thought I was another of the complaining masses.

Nobody tells me anything.

But yes, it does annoy me, that. People thinking it's medival. It doesn't have to be medival, or anything! For example, if you wanted to, you could have hip hop culture. Who's to stop you? Huh? Huh?

But also, It annoys me when people ask for too much. It is, after all, a society simulator. It doesn't have to have EVERYTHING. Hell, it could be a society without buildings, just deal with it, eh?

Anyhow........

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

However, I would appreciate it if you people would help me whine some more. It would be extremly helpfull.

Again, thanks!

Well it doesn't have to have everything, but the more dimentions that you allow the societies to develop into, the better.

Options, people, options!!

I'd rather have heliographs, either light based or the mechnical machine based that might not be called a heliograph or both, than telegraphs.
