Here's an idea...what if all of cantr was just one big road? What I mean is if it were all just like a road, and you could build or hunt anywhere...it would make things like bows and spears more useful, and it would make it so that every building isn't in the exact same place, and ones in the same place would be a town or city or whatever...just an idea...

I'm not quite sure what it is your on about, a big road where you can build anywhere. Do you mean have everything connected so that its not a case of leaving an area when you go on a road, rather your just outside that area. So if you knew where you were going you could set a course directly for a place instead of going everywhere to get there.
If thats what you mean then thats already been suggested however if not then you've completely confused me.

Do you mean like a grid? I haven't read the topic about that, but saw it was mentioned in another topic.
But it will probably make the game:
1. Use more bandwith (think it will, because it has to reload everytime you enter a new part of the 'grid')
2. Make it very hard for 56k users to play normally, because they have to refresh everytime.
3. Everybody will be siting everywhere... normal city's wont be there anymore, I think.

in counter arguement:
1. No more bandwidth than people running in and out of buildings and looking at objects lists etc. Also, i think the 1 day per grid square travel rate sounds good, so would reduce that.
2. They wouldn't have to refresh any more than now, it would just mean more equal journey times.
3. I think it will give greater freedom when moving about and chosing where to live etc, and people will spread, but I think towns will still form where people congregate.

The grid ideas good, but I meant more along the lines of the entire map being designed like the roads in cantr are designed...so that there wouldn't be set "areas" it would be just one big area....so that if you wanted to stop and build an outpost or whatever you just set your walking speed to zero or press some kind of stop button...

do you mean like the sea travel system?
My only concern would be the difficulty to travel and travel to where oyu want to go, would require vey good maps with angles etc in

I don't like the road system that much...it is frustrating enough to travel with people, since carrying weight makes it hard to maintain the same speed.
There should be way to travel together, like to link one with the other.

Roads
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

I don't think it takes three days to walk through New York City but then again there is a first for everything. I guess it also depends what you count as New York City and what you don't count.
I like the grid idea best. I think it would allow for more spread out cities and people can begin a new city almost anywhere. Roads can have taverns or other places where weary travelers rest during their long travels. I think you get my point. Mapmaking will also be more fun because there would be tons more information then there is now.

I'm not fond of a grid system but there should be more paths. Possible some dead end ones.
A grid system gives all the chracters too much of a sense of where they are.
It is easy to get lost without a path or landmarks. A grid system prevents using paths and getting lost. Animals make paths the largest are usally between their food and water. These turn into the paths that people use over time.
I say more paths and no grid.
The problem with more paths {and locations} is having to login to correct your path. There would need to be some way to "keep a heading" on a path or something.
There could be a way to start a location on a path or down a short path off a main path but then how does the game decide what resources are there?
Of course if you want to imagine that every chracter has a GPS built in thier head then a grid is fine. But the math behind who can see who gets complex when going from 1D to 2D.
