Ambush

Postby mortaine » Thu Dec 16, 2004 4:29 am

Y'know, I'd really like to be able to ambush someone so they cannot just run out of a locked building, grab stuff, beat people up, and run back in again, without facing any consequences. Part of my frustration is that, with the site being so slow for me, someone can basically run amock in the 5 minutes it can take for a page to load, not to mention all the other people who have to be "asleep" all the time because their players are not present.

I realize it would require semi-automation, but I'd like to be able to click on the character's description and have a button to set the system to strike at them as soon as they come into the present clearing. If they want to negotiate with the ambushers, they have to slip a note under the door.

Another option might be to make it so that you cannot return to a building in the same hour that you left it. At least then those who are standing around ready to provide some justice for your actions would have a chance of doing so.

Or I might just be really frustrated with a particularly violent criminal right now....

Basically like having your sights trained on a certain area, ready to strike as soon as a target presents itself to be visible? Maybe we could have something like that with the ranged weapons, along with perhaps a slightly higher chance to miss. It seems more difficult to completely surprise someone, especially if they're expecting resistance, with hand to hand weapons. (But then there are many strange things with combat in cantr)

I disagree with this because I am against automation in Cantr, and not because I play the character you are 98% likely to be talking about.

I know, it must suck how low-tech towns cannot defend against stuff like that. I just wanted to bring some of the old "al-Abhol" spirit to the French.

I really cannot respond to that without provoking some kind of CR breach, so I'll just point out that you can, essentially, kill the entire town by doing the things the character that *I'm* thinking of is doing.

Like using locked buildings as fighting positions in a pre-steel region? Or using ships?

There is such a thing as running away, you know...

All I can say is that sometimes running is not an option because the surrounding region is so inhospitable.
