Pilgrim carts would be way better than anything else.

9000 grams of wood
10000 grams of hides
Very slow, but allow 3 passengers and 300,000 storage.

You can't isntall stema engines in longboats, not any ship would have it.
We need horses!Enough of man-powered wagons and carts!

So we can have knights, mounted cops and cowboys who say "Yaaahoooo!!".

Trains

Postby fallenval » Sun Feb 03, 2008 10:41 pm

They should make trains. Trains carry nothing when you first build them you have to add cars. trains with cars carry either a ton of passengers (Passenger Compartment) or a ton of resources (Compartment)
Pro: carry lots of resources/ people if you have alot of compartments
Cons to offset the HUGE resource capacity:
You can only travel on roads that have had tracks set on them.
You can only stop at cities with Train Stations.
you can only have 3 Compartments per engine although you can add more engines
finally trains are complete GAS GUZZLERS to pull all of the things they are carrying

Why would you build tracks/stations
Simple to increase economy if you can transport TONS of resources to trade with neighboring cities it would be a huge benefit

I ask for any posts following this to just add
Trains: :D, or :(

Trains have been suggested before, and well...it is not implemented, sorry.

But motorized ships would rock...

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but these trailers that go for tractors... You know, where they move wheat, sugar-beets, sand etc. etc.
It could be implemented in the same way the sidecar is for the road motorcycle but it would give a bigger space boost. Since, in real life a trailer like that is built to hold weights between 5 and 20 tons. It would make some sense in building a tractor.. At least I haven't seen any tractors around
I see you.
Now I don't.
Or do I?
Maybe I do,
maybe I don't..
Well, I guess I just don't.

There has been a very good suggestion for this from Milo, also including portable machinery, though there are some obstacles to implementation for that.
I'd like to consider more custom options for vehicles in general, that affect not only capacity but performance.

I would like to suggest drift wood as a new water vehichle.
x grams of wood and no tools just trun it into drift wood maybe takes 0.1 days.

pros
Cheap
No tools needed
Doesnt need anything to dock with (eg no coaster harbour) just needs a location to land at or a boat to climb up on

Cons
uses strength (so if trip to long you can die)
only travles as fast depending on your strength
only enough space to take a person and all the stuff in their pockets

This seems like a cool addition to me and a way to facilitate cool new rp oppertunitiess.

I think one of Cantr's problems is that things are looked at from a modern life perspective. So we must have rubber tires because otherwise your butt would suffer. But what if you've never seen rubber? Wouldn't you make wooden cartwheels, maybe with iron bands to strengthen them? I just started thinking, cartwheels could be made on a workbench, then added into a project that needs them. If we make a cart that has springs then it will travel smoother. Imagining a small wooden cart, it's most likely something very amateurish and crude. So why not make an improved version? The point is to use relatively cheap resources but not so cheap tools

Light handcart
- mainly wood, not much, iron for springs
- 2 cartwheels which are made of wood and iron
- tools: carving knife, hammer, pliers
- weight effect 20000 compared to 30000 on small wooden cart vs 15000 on bikes, starting speed is what ever the regular walking speed is

Cart-wheeled rickshaw
- 3 cartwheels
- wood
- some iron for pedals and chains and stuff
- tools: screwdriver, hammer, maybe more
- speed 0.19

Sail cart - why not?
- wood, some iron
- 4 cartwheels
- resources and tools needed for small mast and square mainsail
- I guess speed would be like in the skateboard with the 0.25 boost you get from the sail, not sure how that's calculated

And we might throw in a motor-cart as well, four cartwheels, wood, more iron and requires an engine to move. Some window glass might be necessary.

I still think my Drift wood idea would be good. The RP possibilities are endless, also it would be cheap to use and encourage water travel.

We don't really need to encourage water travel any further. Anyone can get a longboat with some determination. And there most likely isn't going to be any implementations that would require new programming so something that is based on the strength of the user and even includes the chance of drowning is pretty much out of the question.

How about adding cartwheels to a rickshaw or wooden cart to increase its speed, the way sails do for a boat?

I like that idea. I wonder if it would require extra programming.

+1 on horses. Horses are far easier than constructing a bike! Plus, as already said, knights, mounted police, cowboys etc. And easy to code, big plus. Far easier than most domestic animals.

Now that we have fuel consumption code (even though it's not active yet) I wonder if it could also be used to feed horses. Horses could be "installed" with a feeding bag instead of a fuel tank, and you would put stuff in it like wheat, barley, carrots, maybe a bit of sugar, the horse would consume it even while "parked". It should also have hunger and health bars.
