Coloured Text

Postby Anthony Roberts » Thu Apr 08, 2004 4:53 pm

I /know/ this has been talked about and suggested many times before. Or maybe once. I don't know. But coloured text would be great to easily see when something happens to your characters.

Like for example, when someone says something to you, the text turns yellow. Or when you're attacked, red. Pointed at of given something, green. Someone says your name, ... some other colour. Etc, etc, etc.

Could be cool. Sometimes I don't have enough time to read everything, and it would be nice to see what's referred to you...

There is a planned rewrite of how events are stored. It might be a good idea to combine that with this new feature.

Just....don't give some color that's going to blind us all every time it happens.

I like and I agree with Skysilver, no colours that will force me to highlight the text just so I can read the damn thing. Go suggestions!

I think using many of the styles already in the game would be best.

Dark grey (abandoned project color)
Whispers, object movement (gives, takes, drops, or you and others)

Light Grey (other people's projects color)
Movements (animals, people)

White (non hyperlink event color now)
Other's Normal Talk, You talking to one

Italic White
Says to you, project completion, stuff given to you

Bold White
damage to anyone by anything

I don't think there should be Italics/Bold White, but rather a different colour or something. Some computers use handicapped fonts, or non-default TrueType which don't support Italics or Bold, and so will be the same as everything else.

Dark Green Background with Light Green Text (see Buildings & Vechicles)
Says to you, project completion, stuff given to you

Light Green Background with White Text (See Character Info)
damage to anyone by anything

Adding color is a good thing, but please, no angry fruit salad.
