Email notification on whisper

Postby Arenti » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:13 am

I dreamed that one of my chars was whispering to a char that had been asleep for a long time. And that whisper was send to the e mail of that person and soon after that came online. No idea how that would work so not to be abused. But perhaps its possible.

But perhaps it could be available after ten days and only once to a char to whisper to the sleeper what will be send to mail.

If worked right I think this would help a lot in getting people to check back at Cantr.

I think this would be a good idea.

I think I dreamed it because someone told my char that he felt so helpless because someone he cared for a lot had been sleeping for a long time.

I think it would help people to play knowing they are missed.

Yes this title is better. So I'm better with ideas when I'm asleep than when I'm awake. Though that won't surprise people that much. :D But I first was thinking about it like it was funny, but then it seemed it really could help with getting people interested again. Knowing that someone or several people miss that person. It could also say in the mail that if this person intends not to return, that please to unsub. If they already don't intend to return and the messages to e mail don't help for them that they can unsub.

In case this is implied by the new thread title, I wouldn't actually like to get an email every time I'm whispered to.

No I'm certain that's that not the intention. I certainly hope not. As I'm suggesting that it's used for sleepers to make them know they are missed and hopefully they will check back then.

My first thought when I read the title was "server overload". lol Seko could give exact numbers, I'm sure, but I'd guess the number of whispers is insane. Maybe it could be programmed so that it only sent one email per day. That way if someone was whispered to 30 times in a day, they'd only get one email. It would be a good attempt at drawing back inactive players, though.

Please read the suggestion of mine. I didn't give it this title. And its not meant for all whispers. Only after a certain amount of time of the account of the player being not logged in.

I read your post. Was just offering different suggestions in case one is easier to implement.

Well I think it should be one whisper after ten days of not having logged in. It could be one each day though. But not randomly. Just that you know that the whisper will be send to mail.

I like this idea, but only if it's sent to inactive members like Arenti said. I wouldn't want to get emails for whispers when I already log into the game anyway, though perhaps in the email we should have something like "click here to stop getting these emails." I think that the time could be shorter, maybe 5 days? A lot can happen in 5 days.

Well perhaps it could also say that the person can log in to unsub if he or she doesn't intend to return to the game. It would make it better than waiting for a long time for someone that will stop anyway

I wouldn't like to get an e-mail with uncontrolled content. I share an e-mail account with my children. If this came into effect, I would change the e-mail address, but that's not the point. Perhaps an e-mail with 'you have been whispered to by so and so'? Which defeats Arenti's purpose I know. Perhaps it could be optional? and one could tick a 'no' box.
