Discussion (not so much suggestion) of Deconstruct button.

Postby returner » Mon Mar 01, 2010 7:14 am

Hi all,

I noticed the Machine Deconstruct button is huge and easy to click.

Not sure if there are plans to alter this, so I'll bring this topic up.

I find the button a little too big? A little too easy to press or experiment with??

If others agree, perhaps we could discuss another location, or size, for it? Perhaps even a 'Deconstruction' page?? It just seems.. a little tacky and a little uneasy on the eyes.. I don't know, maybe I'm new to it and all, but it just seems like it's not a button used frequently and doesn't need to be in the objects page?

I do agree that it seems very large and very attractive to click. Maybe simply moving it's location to the furthest icon in would suffice.

I think it only stands out because it's new. In a few months you will hardly notice it. Especially when finally all machines will have it.

There's also no real danger in accidentally clicking the button. You are asked if you want to proceed and even if you do, the project can be cancelled. Or am I missing the problem?

Well, it's in a high traffic location (the first icon on the left). I think it should be moved to the right of the "use" icon. I think people tend to mouse in the direction they read (at least I do), so I keep wanting to hit the big X when I use something.

You said it perfectly.

I'd even support a half-size X at the end of the word, or a Deconstruct page.

Too much work with it with too little effect. This suggestion would be bigger then whole disassemling issue.

Really? Damn.. You couldn't shrink the image to half? It just looks ugly at the moment..

Let me give you an example: It's like having the player unsubscribe button next to each of your characters..

edit: Let me just say that I do appreciate the Deconstruct button and the effort put into the Deconstruct process. It's fantastic, it's a great effort and it'll improve Cantr greatly.
But I believe a fine-tune is in order.

Consider it a typical Cantr feature.

How many buttons are in the right place... if they are there at all? XD

It can be made smaller. Problems are with moving it anywhere.

I wonder though if a smaller button wouldn't look even more ugly.

By the way, I don't get the argument of it being more accessibly placed than the use button. When I switch to the objects page my cursor comes from the right and the disassemble button is actually farther away than the use button. I also percieve the buttons closer to the name as more prominent.
Having the hit button on the people page next to the char's name seems like a greater problem to me.

Maybe just shading the icon more then. It's not actually bigger, it just looks bigger because of the shading; it's really bright.

Yes, that would be perfect I think. Resizing may make it look less aesthetic.. but shading.. you are a genius Doug. I know I'm always back-slapping, hi-fiving you but you're a thinker!
