Fax Machine or Teletype

Postby Elros » Thu Jun 18, 2009 7:51 pm

I was thinking maybe we could have a add-on to a radio where it would automatically record any transmissions that come in and put them on a note... I mean that way even if you were outside you would not miss any transmissions. It could be called a teletype, fax machine, or whatever else you wanted, but it would just be an upgrade to a radio that kept a log of the transmission onto a note. That way you don't have to sit beside the radio 24/7 and wait for messages.

What do you guys think?

Good idea. Only one "but" - looks like world of Cantr will be not only modern (cars, radio), but also science-fiction. Such thing haven't been invented yet... I mean a working one.

What is science fiction about a fax machine or teletype? Teletypes are as old as cars. ;)

You can call it whatever you want, but really all I am saying is it would be nice to have a radio transmission print onto notes that way you could have a log of them, as well as see what was said without sitting in the room the whole time...

Any ideas on what to call it or how to implement it into the current Cantr age?

It could be a special note, one you can't edit or pick up from the ground.

It wouldn't be a teletype, but speech-to-text machine.

It would just be one note for that specific radio, and each transmission would just add to the note. I do not think one extra note per radio in the game would be a big deal compared to the massive number of notes now...

I agree, you shouldn't be able to pick it up. I would have to say that you SHOULD be able to delete messages off of it... If not it would keep logging everything for years. Also, you should be able to delete stuff off of there that you don't want.

Yes exactly. That is what I was looking for.

Because it doesn't make sense for speech to be put on a note just like that.

How about we call it a recording then?

It can fit 10 messages on it and plays them, newest first when you hit the 'play' button.

The actual machine could be an answer machine/tape deck etc

Thats a good idea... Like I said, you can call it whatever you need to to make it work, it is just the general idea that I am suggesting.

We could have those steampunky wax cylinders. We could use existing resources and it wouldn't get too high-tech.
