Forum suggestion regarding unread posts

Postby Doug R. » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:20 pm

Now that I'm in the GAB, myself and my colleagues are having problems keeping track of all the posts in all the forums that we need to read. This is because we can't just log into the forum to make a quick check, because if we do, it un-highlights everything. This means we could "lose" a whole weekend's worth of important posts because we popped in for two minutes.

Is there any way to change the settings so that unread threads stay highlighted until they're actually read (and not just login/logout)?

This is irritating beyond belief.

Yeah! Sometimes there is a fail via the forum or my browser and it 'signs me out' (the window fails). Then I have NO IDEA whats new or not without trying to pay attention.

This helps with EVERYONE, not just GAB. Some of us check and have an issue which foces a fail then have to dig. :(

Yes, please, if possible, do something about this. It's very annoying.

If the forum software is upgraded it might also fix that error with the last page of topics containing no posts...

This would change if the forum were updated to phpBB 3.

I also have this problem, but I've found a solution.
First, I have the show new posts bookmarked, so each time I go here I only see new posts.
Each time I open the forum I open all teh topics I want to read in new tabs.
If I don't have time to read them right then they stay open. Firefox has a setting to remember your tabs across sessions, if you close your browser or turn the computer off (I don't do either).

Thanks, that's some good advice! Still should look into getting the forum updated though.
