Inviting people into a vehicle

Postby UloDeTero » Wed Jan 31, 2007 6:24 pm

It would be good to be able to invite other characters into a vehicle without having to fiddle about with keys and whatnot. I'm not sure how it would work, but perhaps there'd be an Invite button, which when clicked gives a list of the charries in the area, which the player clicks. That charry then gets invited, and either enters or not.

1234-5.12: You see Charry inviting you into Speedster [Stationcar])

Technically, it'd probably work like a temporary, invisible key given to the invitee, which disappears when the invitee enters the vehicle, or when the vehicle or invitee leaves the area.
The passenger should be able to exit the vehicle at any time, unless there's a special driver-controlled locking system (for example, in prisoner vans, etc)

You can start a dragging project to drag the person in. If the person participates on that project, you might get him inside without him having a key nor the vehicle to be unlocked.

I think dragging rules changed, you may not be able to drag yourself anymore.

I've done it pretty recently... you just help the person dragging you.

You can still drag yourself.

Related sugestion. Dragging yourself should automaticly work, that way it never takes more than your consent and the person with the key to get you past a lock, it however should not cause fatuge to the participants (or strength training if it does that) should you try to drag yourself as it's essincially the same as walking somewhere.

The core to the suggestion, which everyone is missing so far, is that you can be standing on board the vehicle as your invitee enters. This means, ladies and gentlemen, that you don't have to step outside to drag a potential thief aboard your vehicle, and wake up to find that, after dragging, he's made off with the vehicle.

Thank you, N-Aldwitch. That's exactly my point! :D

In RL, who pulls over to the side of the road to pick up a friend, turns off the ignition, passes the key to their friend and sits there waiting for them to either enter or not?
Or... Who pulls over, gets out of the car, grabs their friend and drags them into the car?

Makes way more sense (even in Cantr ) to be able to pull over and ask them if they want a lift. Then they can get in themselves.

Perhaps the vehicle key could not only unlock the door but is also needed to drive the thing (perhaps this would only work with vehicles that have engines)?

This way you could unlock the door and let them hop on.

Sure it means anyone could hop in your vehicle (and nick your stuff) but, hey, bad stuff happens.

This idea does not work, because you can remove a lock from a vehicle. Then you would not need any key to operate the vehicle anymore.

EDIT: Sorry, please ignore the red text, I didn't realise you were talking about engine ignition.
(for that, you'd need a seperate lock n key to the door's one)

Sorry could you rephrase that?

If you mean what I think you mean, you've again missed the point of the suggestion. If you have a vehicle capable of holding 6 people, and you remove the lock so you can invite people in, and you only want one person in, what if others jump in too? Too bad, is it?

What is wrong with that?

If it is really a problem then you could simply have the ignition lock seperate from the vehicle 'lock'.

I like the idea that a key holder can "invite" (i.e. grant temporary key access to someone) into their vehicle. Just a little bit of bonus security, for no penalty. :)
