Just because people cannot be arsed to rp their hair and eye color to every person they encounter doesn't mean that those things didn't exist. It would be lame to just keep the description blank if the person doesn't accept a totally random appearance that might be in total conflict with their original imagination. It might hurt some people if everybody got to choose if they are strong or an expert fighter, but it hurts no one if someone has pink hair. Why upset people with a trivial matter? The current characters were spawned before genetics so they should be allowed to fill the void with their imagination.

Remove blue and pink from that and it might be on the way to being acceptable...

Well I some what agree with joo however I don't really see the harm in having a little odd hair here and there. I do think that it should be less often or made to be an exception. :? Not exactally sure what I mean.

The color um... tree.. you made seems to fit perfectally for both hair and eye color. I think.

But I think I've seen some individuals rp'ing blue or pink hair. It could be a recessive trait so it would die with those individuals, since what's the chance of two pink heads or blue heads happening in the same town and parenting a newspawn? Unless the players of those rare individuals wouldn't mind making the compromise of choosing some more natural colors like red or dark gray. I've got one character who has a hair color that's apparently called copper chestnut and I don't think that's a natural color but it's within reason.

Non-natural colors could be introduced (and played) by making coloring of your hair possible (hair-dyes as items) and wearing the color, just like clothes.
I think ...

How it would work:

A newspawn inherits one color gene from each parent and the third one is chosen by the player (they can also choose random). Maybe it would also be possible to eliminate parents with undesired genes. I think it would make Cantr special if unnatural colors could appear naturally. It could be solved in-game if some people think it's unnatural, they might start locking up people who look like they might be carrying the blue or pink gene. Strikingly unnatural colors are only produced if the character inherits more than one of pink or blue genes or one of each.

Edit: For comparison, a table with only natural colors.

I like that idea. Especially with being able to choose one color yourself, too.
Maaaan. I'd love light blue hair, most of my characters have blond hair though. Some long, some short. And one of them MUST have pink hair when this is added. :D She is exactly the kind of person to have pink hair.

And there would be people killing/locking up people who aren't "pure" and don't have brown hair or whatever. :P

Besides the 'natural' hair color gene list appearing a bit boring I don't see a real problem with eithor.

You could just make it less obvious like shades of light and dark.

They seem to have hair that is lighter then average?
They seem to have hair that is average?
They seem to have hair that is darker then average?

But who's to decide whats average?

I do like where this is going. Who cares if the hair colors are a little 'wacked' out. Its a game, we're here to have fun right? Well I am anyway. It might be interesting to see what rp happens when a random blue haired person pops into a bunch of blondies. But thats natural human behavior isn't it? To segregate and avoid those whom are diffrent?

I see nothing wrong with eithor templet except the 'natural' hair color one because it seems rather limited and boring.

That's my point. It is boring. Including the blue and pink options will ensure greater diversity. Otherwise there would have to be more than three genes per person and it would take more room in the database.

I like it Seko :D
The "natural" one seems boring, and the other one can give good rp, so I think we should allow blue and pink hair. But we should give the poosibility to have white hair too, right?

Hair could bleach with age. Not necessarily with the same speed to make it more interesting. Perhaps a 50% chance per decade to go a shade lighter or something like that.

edit: Triple hooray to purple hair.
Pretty in pink.

I'm hoping I can get a character with dark lavender. :D

But this might once again bring the problem of suicidal newspawns, somebody wants a character with certain hair colors, and so they keep spawning until they get one.

But after a while if people favor characters with more 'interesting' hair colors, white and black genes might get bred out and so everyone will be more likely to get something interesting and there would be less pointless spawning...
The following statement is not true.

Fishfin, with the "pick one color of the three" thing I doubt that will happen.

Oh god... :x

I am sorry, but I just completely disagree with anybody being able to spawn with unnatural hair colours. It will make Cantr seem like some kind of high fantasy game, with elves and fairies with pink hair... I also disagree with allowing people to choose a "third" gene for their hair - you cannot choose your strength, or your skills - the only thing you are allowed to choose is yout gender, but that is because it affects gameplay so much.

I simply wouldn't be able to take Cantr seriously if it turned into some fashion show where people "customised" what their characters looked like before they were born. The closer it remains to real life - i.e. not being able to choose what body you are born into - the more accurately it will fulfil its original purpose of a society simulator.
