Exactly!
Ever since I first started playing Cantr, I thought emotes should be added. Doing *this* is too annoying when you're trying to get a point across...LOL

You all know that i like "forum digging" this thread is from 2003
I am sure that, those participants will put a smile on .... while reading the thread, from the begining again.
Nowadays, i really put huge amount of effort to find new lands with my charecters, living in Turkish island... And i take few big steps towards my goal. But there is such a huge
in my mind.
When i face with a polish player, how will i communicate? ...
When Robinson, met with Cuma ... they communicated with body language .... but my emotes in *.......*'s will not be clear if I use TURKISH in them .... I may use english in them but will it be a CRB? .... And what happens if other character does not know english ...
I proposr that, we really have to argue about these "auto emotes" again ... from the scraps ...
What do you think ? ...
ps. It took me hours to dig for this suggestion
( To those who do not like double suggestion posts ) ...

It's allowed, I've used it before for French-Dutch and English-Russian communication.

Thankyou for the dig
I've always liked this suggestion - it's come up in more recent threads I've seen - it would simply make the events page more readable.
As for implementation. How about simply two buttons next to the entry field - one for 'talk to all' one for 'action'
The first as usual, the second displays whatever has been typed, minus the says: and the quotation marks.

Anyway, It is now clear that I can use English in my emotes ... or even in my communication tags ... but the problem is, how will I communicate or basically emote with a charecter who does not know english also.
If there are "emote buttons" than i will see those emotes in my lang and the other character in his/her language ... It will make things easier I guess ...
What do you think?

What about, besides basic emotes such as *smiles* *glares* *laughs* and so on, there was a table or interface of sorts where you could choose a few words to link together for an action, and all of those words could be translated by the LD for each language, the grammar might not work well but I imagine the point would still get across.
Ex. you could form *points to mouth* by clicking the first tab and choosing points, the next one and choosing to, then the third one and pick mouth.
It'd probably need close to 100 words or so for basic vocab I'd guess.
It could work sort of like the hunting menu, except with drop down menus like when giving something to someone.
Make sense?
This would give characters in cross cultural meetings a way to express themselves without breaking any ooc language rules, and even teach some basic vocabulary to eachother with actions.

Ah, just had another idea for this. What if the basic emotes could be applied "at" or towards a specific person, chosen from a drop down menu just like giving or such? This could also be added to the whole emote interface menu idea I had earlier, so if your action chosen is directed at someone specifically, you could choose a name from the drop down people menu, but if not, it'd default to blank and just be a general emote.

It is very nice to see that, this argument is born again from its ashes. So here are my ideas:
First of all we may implement a basic "emote" button ... Such as a drop down menu which contains, primitive mans' emotes ...
I do not mean that Nick is a primitive man! (Or is he) ...
OK sorry I am off topic, just kidding ... Back to topic ...
*raise a hand for a shake*
*spit*
*sigh*
I should check the emote list of some muds and maybe WOW ... (*checks for those emotes*)!!!
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/emotes.html
Those are the emotes generally used in muds ... we may choose 10 or 15 and implement those to Cantr easily I guess ... and as creepyguyinblack said we may choose a target "person" to act.
These are the emotes I select from that list:
angry, apologize, beg, clap, cough, cry, goodbye, hug, laugh, stare, surrender, wink.
like:
you choose -nod- from the list and if you want (If you do not want you do not have to) you add a name after it from the charecters list .... so here it goes...
You see a man in his twenties nods / You see a man in his twenties nod at a woman in her thirties
And you will see in your browser as : You nod.
------------------------------------------------------
I am really for the idea to put those emotes in to the game. It will bring some color I believe and it will make things clear for new lands and new cultures. And also those dumb charecters will have some more tools to communicate.
And this is not the end of *....* kind of emotes ... This new implementation is just an add. I will still use those lovely *....*s ....
*smiles*

as Nick said:
smile
frown
rude gesture (however you want to word that)
bear teeth
cry
laugh
yawn
scream
nod
shake head
