right, so can you see why note deletion isn't a good idea?

Because it will mean there is no history at all, even fake history, because people will just delete stuff rather than throw it in an envelope.

I have no problem with making fake history, in fact it's given me a few ideas, but deleting notes will mean there is no real or fake history at all

Actually, Jos wants to keep notes from being destroyed. This is something that has been argued in the past and something that Jos has not ever let up on.

Personally, I think notes shouldn't be destroyed because you will have idiots come into the game and make the main purpose of their characters to destroy every note in Cantr. The main point of this game for Jos is too see how societies develop and history is a main part for that. If these characters are allowed to destroy it (and there are way illegal ways to destroy notes in the game and there are characters who do it just to do it to mess up the game) then I think every note thief will destroy every note in existence in teh game and make it impossible to keep notes for public view. Then history will be totally lost in Cantr except to individuals who have notes on them or those notes locked away in buildings and forgotten about.

History and notes

Postby g1asswa1ker » Sun Oct 05, 2003 5:38 pm

Then it is left to the historians and the poeple to try and keep it books get locked up and forgotten here to like bits of buried treasure. Yes somepeole in the game do things just to ppp people off and there are some in real life that do the same like wipe places clean. Something of which I think you have talk about before. But anyway back to what i was saying you want to see how things evolve allow things to fall apart. if the people don't work to keep it up then it will be lost and then some day some old man in his 80 walls by and says in my day and someone listens and writes it down and 80 years later another does it but its not really the same cause he was never really there so he gets things wrong. See what I'm trying to say?
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

not really, but this thread is beginning to sound like two or three people trying to convince each other of things they already agree on, but haven't quite realised yet. See what I mean?

Although this doesn't really matter IC, is there some master record containing all of cantr's history on a server somewhere? Could be useful to some people OOC possibly.

In RL things many historic documents have been destroyed, it's part of life....thats why there are many copies of books, and there are master copies kept safe...if note deletion was implemented, it would be up to the people of cantr, to value their history and keep it safe, just like in RL...

I agree completely--notes should be deletable. I hate having to take the time to put all my trash in an envelope...but I am very impatient on a lot of things! LOL

Please refrain from such implications, Darth Tiberius. If you think that you have found a technical problem with Cantr, send your ideas to bugs@cantr.net, or to programming@cantr.net.
But don't use such unfounded implications to make your argument look more valid. Keeping notes undestroyable has nothing to do with the performance of Cantr.
