Unless you count the raw nickle in the tamborine, there's no metal instruments at all.
I would hope that when these are implemented, as they surely must be, that you can hear the difference in quality...

Not an instrumant, but on a related note, a conductors wand that you can point at people with? Can that even be coded?
That would be a purely RPed thing in my opinion, like a broom. We could have it under musical instruments, but with no playing ability, if people really want to RP that.

I would just use a stick though...

Or how about a golden fiddle

Chances are, there will be a few stringed instruments. I would suggest that there be a number of ways to make string for stringed instruments, which would make them modular.

Either, stringed instruments can just take an amount of 'string' as currently exists using the Simple Twiner, or the twiner should have new projects added for 'instrumental strings' for silk, cotton, and possibly hemp.

As for the violin - what's going on there? The resources are very primitve, but the tools are pretty specialised - either make the resources and tools both primitive, or up the resource requirement to string.

As for possible stringed instruments (all of which should take the same tools as the violin, pretty much):

 A Zither
A fairly generic term for anything from a Kanun, to various Greek varieties, and varieties from further east, such as the Chinese Guqin and Japanese Koto.

 Guitar, Bouzouki and Sitar
All fairly similar, requiring wood and string to make, although the guitar should maybe need a small amount of steel or iron.

 Harp & Gilted Harp
Requiring wood, string and a small amount of steel/iron/bronze - the gilted harp should require a harp, and an adequate amount of gold and a hammer.

 Lyre
As harp, but smaller and no metal

 Kora
Wood & sinew or string

I think names should be kept neutral, and generic as possible - but be aware that most 'generic' terms are western in origin - a guitar covers a possible range of instruments - lute, even the Greek Bouzouki, but doesn't adequately cover the sitar or Kora - same goes with the zither, the Guqin and Koto are quite different from western versions.

Oh... i thought you were just complaining about the Bazokie player!

I love Monty... Python...

And the wand is a Baton, i believe... and up until the 18th C they did use pace sticks (like those used by marching bands) Until some composer stabbed himself in the foot and died of Gangrene. (they used to keep time by bashing it on their podium, up and down.)

and HOW have we missed out the humble Lute?

What about static instruments e.g Harpsichord, Honkytonk, Organ... Piano...

I WANT AN ELECTRIC GUITAR!!!!!
AND ELECTIRC BASS!!!!!
AND FULL DRUM SET!!!!!
AND TURNTABLES!!!!!
...
...
...
Now, on a serious note, if we have violins, then why not string basses? I would love to be able to make one of those. Or (as I think someone else on here already suggested) a sackbut, which is a primitive trombone. It would only need brass. Take a long time to make, though. You know, all the tubing, and bending it right can making sure it works...
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

How about a giant iron bell that's loud enough to be heard inside all the buildings when you use it?

(hope this hasn't been suggested already, but I'm in a hurry...)

A recorder. It simplifies the clarinet, cause those need reeds and ligatures, etc.

How about symbols?

Mouth harp, harmonica.

Pipe Organ. I can picture Lord MacGregor tooling away on one of those.

Ducilmier(sp?)

We need bows for violins and such to be seperate insturments so we can also have freaks that play Musical Saws

Triangles, for pies characters.

*Ting* You see Pie say "Huhuhuhuuuuu! I do!" *Ting* You see Pie say "Huhuhuhuuuuu! I do!" *Ting* You see Pie say "Huhuhuhuuuuu! I do!" *Ting*

Two very related things:

1: Music should have it's own skill. Seriously.

2: Why can't we sing? Just a button that changes the word "says" to "sings".

The bard says "A trollop! A trollop! My king requires a trollop!"

vs.

The bard sings "A trollop! A trollop! My king requires a trollop!"

It would take some coding, but is every bit as cool as the instuments. Especially if that skill bit is attached. :D

The bard expertly sings "A trollop! A trollop! My king requires a trollop!"

vs.

The bard awkwardly sings "A trollop! A trollop! My king requires a trollop!"
Reality was never my strong point.

A primitive drum that doesn't require rope or string or whatever, just sinew or hemp, wood, and hide.

And harps are something that have been around for a long time so they would be neat to see too.

I support all simpler instruments and percussion first. castanets, rain sticks, bongos, pan flutes, lutes, bells, wood blocks, and 540 channels over the satellite radio. You know, just the stuff that humanity has depended on for thousands of years to stay entertained.

A trumpet (Early version, straight and with holes on the bottom rather than valves on the top...)
