I'm against this proposal.

That only works if you're just using the radio to communicate with members of a particular organization. Most people leave it on default in order to pick up alerts from other towns, requests for help, and trade offers. I would venture to guess that the majority of radios that are built are to be able to keep in touch with other towns, that are almost never part of the same government or organization.

I think this is a 'problem' that should be addressed in-game. Several solutions come to mind...

Thanks, I would have never thought of that had not someone vaguely suggested that there were solutions without giving any of them specifically.

Only this. I am against everything else.

Of course people are free to describe their voice and I have seen (yes, seen) this done effectively.

The messages that prompted this are OOCly motivated; were badly roleplayed and included emotes you couldn't hear. So, hopefully the player will learn and not do it again?

It's not like it's the first time something like this has happened.

I know the 2nd part would frustrate those who are experiencing radio spam. I just don't think you should be able to assign a name to a voice over the radio so that you'd recognize them on sight if you come across them in person. Unfortunately, the system doesn't know how well you know someone so the 1st part would have to be based solely on whether or not you've changed the dynamic naming of a particular char and consider that "familiar" enough to recognize their voice.

How about an extra naming system for radios?
Like you hear someone you know the first time on a radio and than think 'So that's how his/her voice sounds on the radio!'. (Does that makes sense?)
So you wouldn't recognize someone you know just over the radio. (Until you see him use one and hear the familiar voice coming out of the radio and you think 'OMG, it's HIM!' - And than you can kill him. :D)

I would only support this if it was voluntary and sort of an extra effort. Such as, you have to add on another piece of machinery so that your radio now has an ID that you can tell everyone but I no way should character identity be shown over the radio.

Also, I remember a while ago someone suggesting a machine or machines that would be helpful to triangulate where a radio signal was coming from, I am more in favor of that. But even though, I rather it take a while...like first it tells you its coming from a repeater (or possibly multiple locations) and then if you shut those down, it tells you general direction and then you can focus in on it, I don't know.
