Re: Airplane
It could slowly lower to the ground on a road and you have to pull it to the next town?

Re: Airplane
..or you get a new, temporary location - immobilized airship - and wait there for a salvage?

Re: Airplane
Well, an airship doesn't need fuel to stay up, so that wouldn't be a problem luckily. Fuel would be required to get from A to B though and we can choose the same approach as with vehicles, namely making the airship very slow when out of fuel. Airships would also need docking masts as "harbours" (at least the large ones).

Re: Airplane
When our balloon runs out of fuel should go slow, like the land vehicles. You may think that the balloon is moved by wind. To go from one place to another the system would be like boats, but with the possibility of traveling both on land and on water.
A good idea would be that characters located in a balloon have more range of vision. But I guess this would be difficult to implement.

Don't have chars with telescopes an increased sight range? Should be possible to implement something similar for balloons.

Re: Airplane
Both binoculars and telescope have increased visual range. I don't think it would be difficult to make the same for people in an airship looking at their surroundings.

And the helicopter can wait - there are more primitive flying things to implement first, no?
Yeah, just like you guys did with land vehicles...
A pretty smart-alec way to say it, and despite it's rudeness, I actually agree with this ideology.. (vans? motors? ..bone clubs?)
I think this should wait until free-roaming is available.
So, yeah, we'll never see it

But what would happen if the fuel runs out? 'We will all die' thing? It's the only one that seems reasonable to me.
Without fuel almost all aircrafts can land (zeppelins and balloons possibly can), then, my idea is to go to the nearest location (earth) or, at sea, create a small boat named "old balloon", that acts exatly like a boat (for travelling).
Helicopters would do all-crew dies at sea and land at earth(being destroyed, giving damage to all crew).

Re: Airplane
Hot-air balloons should only let you land in certain areas (desert and plains, not mountains or forest) and should provide a "Jump Out" suicide button while traveling.

I say that a character with a telescope, located in a balloon, can see farther than other character with a telescope, located on the ground.

Re: Airplane
of course
If I read the other topics, they all end to the conclusion of how easy it would be just implementing aircrafts that do not need an airport, like balloons, Zeppelins and helicopters.
it is possible on the water, so why not above the ground?

Re: Airplane
An airport would actually be the easiest part of the suggestion. In fact, we can even have landing pads/mooring masts on the roof of a building without need for additional programming.

Re: Airplane
If we treat airships as normal ships, all we need to do is have programming bypass the coastline check.

Re: Airplane
I would strongly advise to also implement fuel usage before we have airships. I know, the winds in Cantr apparently blow in any direction you want them to, but an airship with sails would feel weird. This doesn't concern balloons though.
