I like the idea of having some control over spawn location.

You could do it by naming characteristics of the place, such as resources, or population level, or location type "forest, grasslands, by lake, by sea", or by the commoness of a particular item.

Youd punch in a search, and it would find the closest match...

This way, if you want to play a certain type of character, you can do so more easily...

i've also been thinking about the idea of being able to spawn in the town of your choice by using credits, though it might be really expensive seen as 1 minute costs 5 points, which is a lot for something so small.

why isn't that idea getting much support? i've already had three different accounts. i'd like to not only see what some of my old home towns are up to but also be a part of them again.....oh and i had two toons spawn in the same damn town already  spawn fishing doesn't work well when spawning is completely random.

the only alternative that comes to mind for finding the town of your choice is to simply travel to it.....lets be realistic. who believes a newspawn who says " i just want to see the world a bit before settling down"? i've got one toon not too far from one town i'd like to get back into. the thing is i feel like it's a CRB to walk to it just because i as a player simply want to have a toon in that town again.

there could be rules to the use of such a tool, like not being able to use it for a certain amount of days after it's used. as for the cost....200 credits maybe? it would get people to vote more often. and if there are other things a person can do to help cantr and get more points for it that would be great for both the player and the game.

What you describe is a CRB. I too, desperately want a character in a certain location and have yet to land one there. (note to the group I want to join - advertise! The closest guy I got doesn't even know you exist, and is now too vested in his life to join you if he ever does!)

If you want to guarantee that you don't spawn characters close to each other, make sure that all of your charries are in their home towns for an entire day when you make another one. Charries on roads aren't counted, and the tracking device that governs spawn locations only updates a few times per day (or so I was led to believe).

Back on topic: If something like this was ever implemented, and that's a big if, as this is the most controversial of all the suggestions, it couldn't be guaranteed. It would just narrow the probability.

the character that i spawned in the same location as my other one was spawned like 40 days after the first one. and i never left town untill that same day when i spawned him, and thanks to the flaw of random spawning i had to make him go insane and hit people to get him killed. which, as far as my understanding goes, is a CRB in two senses.

1) i made an IC decision based on OOC influence

2) that would classify him as a suicidal newspawn which is commonly frowned upon. especially if it's for the purpose of getting a better location and it was.

also, thanks to random spawning you can wind up in a location with multiple abandoned towns with lots of animals that eventually eat you alive, which does nothing for you but get a character slot locked for 40 days.

i fail to see how it is so controversial when EVERYONE wishes they could have one character in a certain location. is wanting a character in a certain location for OOC reasons also a CRB? ( i am begining to see a CRB pattern  ....not much i can do without stepping on the rules, even if it's to follow them, is there?..... )

I assume one reason why that is controversial is, that it would hardly be able to choose one's spawn location without getting information about the geography of Cantr, which is currently strictly taboo.

Okay, if you had to type the name of the location you want to spawn in, you would only be able to spawn in locations you as a player have knowledge of, so that should be less critical. That would make it necessary though, to have a list of all locations and the names they might be possibly known under.

there has to be a way of doing it. the places can be numbered and a map of cantr can be posted on the wikki with a link to it with the spawning location function.

That is exactly the problem I was talking about. If the policy regarding in-game information doesn't get changed, there will never be a map of Cantr in the wiki. And until there are complete in-game world maps available in almost every town in Cantr, I strongly subject to any changes of this policy.

what do you mean by " the policy regarding in-game information "? you mean using out of game infro for IC purposes?

No, I mean the type of information that is allowed in the wiki. Information about geography, culture and history are strictly find-out-in-game and mustn't appear out-of-game.

Having a character where you want to have one begs the question of why you want one there (there are more suspicious reasons than valid ones for doing this). If everyone wanted a Blackrock or a Stone Knight, and had the ability to spawn in those locations, those groups would become lopsidedly powerful (not to mention the ability to cluster with your OOC friends). In fact, that argument alone kills this idea entirely. :p

Just what I wanted to say.

Rest my case.
- Every person lost in war is two too many.
- Respect comes from two sides and must be earned. Nobody has the right to it because of a title, sex, age, race or birth.
- What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
- I believe in True Love, do you?

Well the whole thing of picking the actual *named* location, I dont like it for the same reasons, but wasn't it mentioned earlier about certain areas *by the water, in the hills, in the mountains* That could be something to consider. In that way you wouldn't know which island you were spawned on until after. Does that make any sense? *sleep deprived here*

A lot of games out there use points to purchase ingame items. I was thinking maybe you could purchase items that your character spawns with that have little to no effect on the mechanics of the game itself. Mostly this would include different types of clothing, since clothing doesn't really have much effect on the game besides a visual appeal. Different levels of clothing would have different points associated with them. Such as Hide would be minimal points while silk would be a very large amount.

The clothing list you could spawn with wouldn't be the entire list either. It's be simple things. Hide Dress. Silk Dress. Hemp Trousers. Nothing like a silk sari or a monocle.

If you spawn a second charrie in the same town as your first, instead of getting him killed off, just have him leave town. Problem solved.

notsure :?

Damn you for making me think those actually exist in Cantr! I want them, though.
