formerly known as hf wrote:with the present comabt/healing/tiredness/dragging debacle, I'm all for anything which makes killing easier, not harder.

In real life, if pirates docked to a town, they could do some damage - even though everyone was awake - because they could get to people before they had run away, got weapons etc.

Why not the same in Cantr. If somoene isn't logged in and a group of five people kill them - they're likely not to have a good shield in that case - so it's the equivalent of unarmed civilians who can't run fast enough...

There would be so many more pirates, pillaging and wars in Cantr if the combat wasn't borked. In Cantr terms, five organised pirates ocnstitutes a horde (how often do you see five people organising) - five organised characters should be able to take-out a large proportion of the unarmed population, and capture a number of prominent people.
But they can't, because of tiredness and skills.

Similarly, wars should be much more bloody - or at least more realistic - not this crappy hit-and-run, drag and smack we have...

What he said, though of course that's more about the combat system in general then about the original suggestion.

Heck, from what I've seen five active, reliable people who are willing to do what their leader says without bringing that 'oh violence is wrong, waaah you're evil! lets all hang out in the middle of town and play dressup instead' mentality into it is an army that could have all the neighboring towns trembling in their boots. I have chars that literally dream about just having two or three.

That's what I meant, HF, you nailed it, about the hoard thing. That's how things go.

But personally, I think the current combat system is ingenius and absolutly perfect for the game, with the exception of the tiredness.

Other then that, it's without flaw.

People are all saying "Ohh, I can't do a bloody massacre war blah blah blah..."

Well, yes, you can. If you can't, it's because you haven't had the manpower and armorment, or you've been up against enemies that are adequatly armed to defend themselves. That's nobody's fault. That happens in real life too.

Say you have a few guys with longboys and wooden shields, and you go to a small town of say, six people with bone clubs and shields, all get together at the same time, then open up on the place, you'll be able to massacre the village. You'll kill whoever stays and fights, and, just like in a real attack on a village, people will run away. You can hunt them down if you've time, just like in a real attack. And even if they escape, you've dispersed the town and have effectivly destroyed it, and you're in control if you want to stick around, and if you see any of the townspeople who escaped again, they'll likely listen to what you have to say.

And just as in real life, in this game you can do hit and run attacks. It happens all the time in real life. Why not in Cantr?

Massacres can occur. It's nobody's fault if you can't pull it off. The system works fine. You just have to work with the system.
