Unfinished Project Timeouts

Postby Riggly » Fri Dec 17, 2004 4:43 am

I'm thinking that a timeout value of unfinished projects might be a benefit. Even if it is only on the resource gathering projects versus the building projects.

First reason being that if there are 200 unfinished stone gathering projects .. it becomes difficult to find a single project in that huge list.

Second reason being that it is more resources being used for the Cant server to have to search and produce a big long list of projects.

Just a thought.

So if a project goes unused for x amount of time, it is deleted as a project?

Maybe not construction projects (tools, buildings, weapons, machines, etc) just the resource gathering projects. If there are 200 unfinished potatoe gathering projects .. it might be good if they simply "timeout" or disappear after a while.

Or you can just clean up the projects list, or create laws against starting new ones. The means to clean up projects is already in the game, I don't see why we would need to implement anything to fix it.

The villages that your characters are in may be in a position to create such laws and/or clean up events but most will not.

Most of my characters try to complete unfinished projects (started by other people). A timeout does sound like a good idea, though. There are some projects that repeat 100 times that have no progress on them. A timeout period would be great and any resources collected after, say, 100 days ends up on the ground.

On a similiar note, for buildings that are half constructed, is there some way to destroy a partially made building? One of my characters is in a town with a building that started several years ago (in the 400's I think) that may never be finished. Can those "deterioate" faster? Or can we use some tools (sledgehammers?) to destroy the building? Maybe even get back some of the resources used in the construction? Like if 6000 stone was applied to a building that was never finished, the town could get 2000 stone back as a reusable resource if they destroy the building. That sort of thing.

Don't double post. *Waits for Anthony to strut and fluff his feathers*

If projects don't have progress on them, or you can finish the current repeat, then you can cancel any project that has 0% progress. Very new projects started by other cannot be cancelled, projects that have materials added cannot be cancelled.

Ahh! You people are the bane of my life. Robbing out walls... I like nice simple archaeological digs! With nice obvious walls.

Incidentally I fully approve of the timeout idea.

I dislike Timeouts. I like Demolition. It would be nice, but unrealistic, for the demolition project to have a lockout that is time based. That way someone can start building a hall, leave to get more, and come back to find thier stone still there.

In real life, Constuction materials are frequently absconded and turn up in improvinational urban skate ramps.

And student bedrooms...

And I mean timeouts, for example, on potato projects, not building projects.
