I know this thing has been referred to in the past but I have recently (within four days so cannot say more) come across a case where people were said to be killed but at least a part of them most likely died from starvation or account cancellations, or there may even have been those corpses that seem to appear from nowhere. If this were real life, no one could claim that people were killed with a weapon if there are no big wounds on them. The condition of the corpses would prove otherwise. But now game-technically there is no way of telling the difference. This thing should be changed and fast, it is not natural that someone could hide a huge wound from inspections!
Wound types:
Clawmarks, bite marks, horn pokings, hoof marks - Animal attacks. Since there are so many different ones, at first it could be descrived only as "signs of animal attacks". In the future there should be an option to use animal claws as weapons to make it look like an animal did it.
Bruises - Bare fist, blunt weapons: clubs, sticks, stone pots
Slashes - Edged weapons: swords, sabres, knives - Ranging from scratches to deep cuts
Piercing wounds - Bows, spears
Slashes and piercing wounds cause blood stains on clothes that might also fade away in time since there is no washing option yet. In the simplest form when a person was assaulted with a piercing or slashing weapon near his or her death, there would read "A bloody body of a man in his twenties" for example. If you click on the eye icon that now only shows the clothes, you would also see a bit more detailed description. Scars and wounds would be similar to clothing, only that you could not take them off. In the future there could be ways of damaging corpses to make it look like they were murdered if they in fact died of natural cause.
Times in which scars heal and fade is one of the big problems here.
Starvation:
You lose 2 points a day, so you can live 50 days without food in Cantr, right? 5 days - thin, 15 days - skinny, 25 - gaunt 35 days - emaciated, 45 days - just skin and bones.
This way there could be anorexia in Cantr. Sad but it happens already. Ok it might be harder to simulate mystical diseases by hurting yourself or giving away all your food but I'm ready to accept that.
This idea needs a lot of working on but at least a simple version of it should be added as soon as possible. We do want realism, right?
Edit I found the other topic, it's this one: http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1952 But seems like the discussion there got totally out of tracks from the start.

I For simplicity (if it would be simpler that the whole thing) a description attached to a corpse that gave some information on what killed (dealt the last, lethal bit of damage to) the person would be a big help on it's own.
And of course, to throw a monkey wrench in the existing suggestion, do consider you could hide a lot under a fur cloak...small stab and blade wounds or some starvation easily.

Seko, i think that is a bit complex, the programming department is to lazy
. Just kidding, well anyways, maybe make it so that you could see:
A body of a man in his twenties killed by weapons
A body of a man in his twenties killed by no weapons
A body of a man in his twenties killed by starvation
or something like that
A body of a man in his twenties killed by weapons
A body of a man in his twenties killed by no weapons
A body of a man in his twenties killed by starvation
or something like that

Yes but if the person covered by a fur cloak is dead, anyone could lift the cloak and see the marks. That's what I meant.

I agree that this would be a great benifit for the game.
Further on, if poisons would be introduced, it would also make it more profitable to poison someone to death instead of cutting their heads off (in some cases.)
Industrialist got a point about a more simple system, but I think that even a wounded person should be able to be identified as wounded or starving. It shouldn't be that hard to program I think...

I would like to keep the description off the object name "A body of a man in his twenties" and put it on the examine page, it makes sense and stops the objects page getting cluttered.
I also like the original suggestion best: the ability to see perhaps several of the wounds, rather than just the one that killed them as they all may have contributed.
Seko: I think the code is written in PHP working in conjunction with a database (poss MySQL?), Can you simulate that with C++? Maybe just design it in pseudocode
