I don't recall where he said it, but its a good idea. In the end, however, I would like to see the game progress towards more player driven cultivation of crops, but I think its a good improvement that we can do now with little effort

I just don't think it would be a good idea to have to plant seeds first. Makes things too complicated. Farming seasons would complicate it just enough to make it interesting.

I would like to see farming and cultivation got across in the feel of the game, so although you aren't actually planting the seeds, when you play the game it seems to the player like their char is doing the various stages of farming. Perhaps when you farm it shows the stage you are at, and when that is doen it automatcially changes to the next.

eg. in late Autumn the project is called "preparing ground", and in Winter it changes to "Sowing seed" or whatever you do in Winter. So you get the feel for farming, but without the complex gameplay.

Yeah, the game can't be so advance that only someone with knowledge of agricultural work irl knows how to do it in the game.

Because face it...not many of us would survive in an environment like the one in Cantr :)

ever heard of a program by Cloud 9 called "The Tribe"? not quite like cantr, but due to a virus all the adults died leaving only the children behind, with no knowledege of anything like farming. Very interesting concept IMO

This thread died, but I think it's a good idea. Where farming is a year long project (20 days) that cycles, and the more people you have helping on a project at different stages could speed up that stage.

For example, in the last 5 days of a year you could sow the seeds (Except you would just work on the project, but it would say as a project name, sowing potato seeds) if you had 5 people working on it it would complte in 1 day, but you would have to wait until the next season so you could work on the next stage.[/b]

I like this idea. It would make it so people would have to farm enough to have a winter supply.

Ignore the past posts please..,..

I got a new idea for seasons, so I just found this old thread, I could've got a new one, but NO, I wont let me, Now let me begin.

the % is how much food you could collect depending on the day relative to what we can do now. If this is implemented, farmers would get more out of their jobs, and there would be rise and fall of prices, encourage <b>trade</B>

100% in autumn because its the harvest season
40% in winter because sometimes they finish riping at the beginning of winter
5% in spring because you are supposed wait for the seeds to grow in spring
60% in summer because some foods ripen in summer

20 day cantr year...
(autumn)
1 -100% food
2-100% food
3-100% food
4-100% food
5-100% food
(Winter)
6 -40%
7 -40%
8 -40%
9 -40%
10 -50%
(Spring)
11 - 5%
12 - 5%
13 - 5%
14 - 5%
15 - 5%

(summer)
16 -60%
17 -60%
18 -60%
19 -60%
20 -60%

I don't know that I like the idea of seasons at all. But for a simple system (no plany, cultivate, harvest complications), what you have looks good to me.

Let me tell you right now that astrology has nothing to do with the seasons.
Astrology is what is known as a pseudoscience.
http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/zodiac.html for more information on astrology.
http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/debating.html for a little bit about psuedoscientists.
The rest of that site is got some good stuff about freaks that think the world is going to end, and logical scientific reasoning as to why it's not.

Oh yeah, seasons sound cool.[/u]
