I agree that it would be easier to get all your characters in the same location abling easier cheating. But, I voted yes, - to just choose what island and let the rest be random because it would be nice to see other parts of Cantr then the one island most of your characters end up on.

I chose that one as well, but I think there would have to be a limit of how many characters you could have on each island. And also, it would require that islands be defined, which isn't such a good thing. Something you have to find out in game, which are seperate islands, and which are actually not.

Yeah - I think the risk of allowing everyone to see what lands are available is too great. I still really support the idea where the system is just tweaked a bit further to prevent your chars from spawning too close to each other. It seems like the original intent of this suggestion was along those lines - it wasn't because he wanted to select any specific spot, he just didn't want all his chars lumped together.

Which IMHO is a great idea...

Hate to prove you wrong, but what I actually wanted was a char either at the other end of the Aki island, or one one on the Sring island (I think)

well, if you want to pick a specific point then unfortunately for you that isn't a possibility as it's been suggested before and rejected on the basis that in real life you don't get to choose where you are born, and that players will neglect some areas over others.

Also, if you can start to choose areas to spawn in it begins to skew the people centric spawning system, if for example you want more chars on a certain island rather than others.

I voted something else, so let me explain.

I did NOT read both pages before posting this so :P

the current method of random spawning is just not effective for the players. It may effectivly keep the number of people spread out a bit. BUT it causes problums for players. For instance, I at one point had 4, in the same region and a total of 7 on that continent in general. For the CR of no more then 2 charactures to an area, thats impossible. And, no matter how hard we try, if a person has that many charactures in one area, sometimes ooc knowledge does get used. I admit it, One of my charactures knew an attack was coming to a nearby town. and I had a characture in the town leave on some made up errand. I told myself it was a real reason to leave, over and over, but the reality was i didnt want her dead. (both charactures are deleted now by the way...lol)

The random thing is nice, but lets control it a tiny bit more. make it so that the computer wont spawn you in the same region if you already have 2 charactures there. I know there are enough different areas to make that work.
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

Having two chars close to each other

Postby SekoETC » Sat Jun 26, 2004 4:27 pm

This may be a bit off topic but... My characters are quite spread up but two of them, Maline and Maryan (heh, even the names match!) live quite close to each other. It's hard to keep them mentally separate when people walk through the mountains (where Maline is) and end up in Sjo where Maryan is a citizen. It feels quite creepy.

And when you have about 3 or 4 chars in the Quillanoi area, and the only one who's moved from where he started so far doesn't have a huge amount of choice over where he's going (not many sensible places for him to go at the time), it's even worse.

I haven't got a good reason to move many of them away much either.

Umm, guys? You do realise there is no rule that states your characters can't be at the same location, and no rule that says they can't interact with each other (As long as their following their own goals, and you don't cheat, that is) - You can have a maximum of three charaters in one location at a time, from what I understand. Some people think that purposely having your characters avoid each other is a CR breach itself, since you're using OOC knowledge to keep them out of each others way. If a character wants to go somewhere, or needs to, let them - another character there or not. As long as you don't cheat with them, all is fine. Even better yet, send an e-mail to the players department to tell them that you'll have two characters in the same location, if you're so paranoid, to ensure that you don't get accused of cheating (Unless of course you actually DO, then you're screwed :P).

Nah, its not that I'm worried about. It's me making mistakes and using the wrong char... Which I almost did.

I'd just prefer to have more scattered chars.

OK, this isnt funny. I decided to count my chars. I have 13 total. 9 on the Siom.Quill island, none further north than Reniov (if you look at the really good picture map).

SOmething needs to be done about this!
