Crack

Postby YugoStrikesBack » Tue Jul 13, 2010 5:57 am

We should include crack in Cantr. If smoked, crack will keep players from getting tired, allow them to do tasks at fast speeds, and allow them to do such tasks without regards to damage.

Crack will also cause players damage that cannot be restored through healing food, only through kicking the habit and healing over time.

This will provide players the short term benefit of doing work faster (work euphoria), but since damage does not affect a players ability to do work when on crack, it will make players dependent on smoking crack in order to continue doing tasks at such a good pace.

Tell me this is not the best suggestion you have ever heard.

Sure.
This is definitely not the best suggestion I have ever heard.

Haven't drugs and alcohol-that-makes-you-drunk been discussed before and rejected?

This is not the best suggestion I ever heard.

Drunkeness is even on the character page, so I don't think it's rejected. Maybe just not prioritized/implemented? Drugs would be a nice addition to cantr, but maybe a little hard to implement all various effects from different types of drugs. Some drugs could have an overdose chance, which could mean instant death. And all drugs/drinks/foods should have a maximum amount that can be ingested in a time period so we get rid of things like two chars dragging an entire town with the help of a ton of tea.

I didn't say drugs, I said crack. You don't need to have a bar that states how cracked out you are, you can just look at your damage, and if you get hooked on crack you can start getting damaged more and more, even from withdrawels (withdrawels that could be cure with normal healing food?) Until finally the stuff kills ya.

I love this idea. I want to make everyone in Cantr addicted to crack.

It's not a bad idea. Not the best I've ever heard, but not a bad one.

I don't think this has anything to do with the mechanics of the game -- the PD should encourage players, as yugo described, to smoke more crack.

Wow.

Just wow.

That was my initial impression when reading through this, but to be honest, it isn't a bad idea at all. Considering we have some 'cracked' out characters anyways, might as well give them a reason to be that way!

I would be interested in the numbers though, how much damage per use/over time, there would certainly need to be side effects/withdrawals.

I think it should be called something else however once/if it is implemented.

I can already see Yugo's characters forming drug cartels and peddling drugs to newspawns. But yes, the idea is not totally bad and I think Echo's suggestion has to be implemented. Drinking too much tea should have some adverse effect like paralysis (the character cannot move by himself for some hours) or should cause some wounds or toxicity or drunkenness.

It should give an unfair advantage to players who use it.

If implemented, it should be very hard to make, and most importantly, include messages everywhere that say Cantr does not endorse the use of crack in the real world (or something to that effect).

Of course, many scientists who study drugs say that drugs should not be illegal (they have amazingly good reasons) but just to be on the safe side, the message should be displayed.

We already have apothecary mixes. Afaik all of the recipes haven't been figured out yet. Maybe some of those are potent drugs?

On the topic of a disclaimer, we don't endorse theft, murder or rape either. It's the characters that uses and abuses, not the payers, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
