If people want to play for resources or strategy then fair enough but if you look at cantr stats you will see the amount of public/private talking is going steadily up which I consider a good sign because I have and always will play cantr for the roleplay.

The charrie I consider my "best" charrie has nothing but a ton of potatoes and the charrie who used to be my best was actually locked up with very little. The point im trying to make is not everybody plays cantr for the same materialistic reasons and the current climate actually makes it easier to roleplay because people waste less time trying to get vehicals and weapons and can concentrate more on what they actually want to do. I remember a charrie I had called Joan Hosa had to spend 10 long (ingame) years just working repeptivly for a bike at T and T, I finally got it but lost interest in the game after that because collecting resources meaninglessly is really boring (for me anyway)

Also boo to you for trying to compare Cantr to WoW, try finding an individual, exciting, quirky charrie in WoW

I prefer a good blend of roleplay and planning/organizaton/strategy because when mixed right they just go so awesomely together, with one inspiring the other. I'm not seeing a whole bunch of opportunities for strategic play in Cantr, which is sad to me but I still enjoy the roleplay enough that I'm willing to live with it.

Cantr is really unique. I've tried so many other games, and quirkiness with the technology levels and certain other Cantrisms aside, it's still the only one I've found where you play a normal human being's day to day life in a normal non-magical world and are encouraged to develop normal, realistic goals. It's amazing, that sounds so boring when I write it down, but even when I've quit for months at a time I still have vivid memories of my characters and often kick myself for letting them die, heck I've even had dreams about the game...there's just something about the incredibly messed up and broken formula we've got here that still grips me in the way that no other game and very few novels have ever managed.

Maybe one day it'll have some serious competition (FTO did nothing for me, even disregarding the ridiculous birth queue) and have to get its act together, but until then like it or leave it it's got a monopoly on this particular RP genre...which is so freaking niche right now it doesn't even have a name. Seriously, what would you call Cantr when trying to describe it to a friend?

Continous, all-player-characters, non-fantasy, text role-playing game or CANTRPG.

And... This have no sense in this point that old cars were easy to made, and now you want to make newbies to get their cars, 10x harder...

Once again returner doesn't understand simple mechanics. *sigh*

Lucky for me, Marian has already said "Things are already over complicated for no reason".

While a game like Cantr SHOULD discourage lone behavior the problem at hand is as Piscator said... consumablity and scarcity. Make vehicles break down (fuel is a good start but eventually it'll just be something else which is stock piled and easily enough obtained/stolen/whatever) beyond "needs repair". Make fixing them use a skill. Give skills more value beyond being able to work faster.... and then I bet "your problem", returner, will be mostly fixed.

It'll come down to only big towns being able to maintain vehicles and those that are sitting around... will just end up on cinder blocks.

OMG OMG OMG!!!

I totally have the answer!

This talk of WOW has opened my eyes to the PERFECT suggestion for Cantr!

We need "Barrens Chat" or even "Trade Chat" to bring the sense of incredibly fun RP you find on WOW to Cantr!

Yes. I can see it now, the game will come alive with wonderful conversations on how Chuck Norris can do EVERYTHING! Switch on over to "trade chat" and hook up with the sexiest BElf online at the time.

Yes...this is what Cantr needs!

Woot for me!

Dammit...edited to add real contribution

I think adding this weight would be a horrible idea.

</end contribution>
