Exactly. It'd be cool, I think. And the systems seems to be able to calculate how close towns are, as it can define it for things like docking and for seeing ships and lighthouses.

Perhaps you could implement it... But it'd be VERY hard to do, requiring five strong persons to throw one weak horrible fighter overboard..? (Exaggerating, I know, I know.. But you get the point.)
But it should definitively not be an insta-killer. You'd wash ashore at the closest town.

Who can give a quick summary for this thread why notes are not to be destroyed, ever? And same for resources, why they supposedly should never become inaccessible to players. Thanks.
Lets say that people thrown overboard (if we do go there) should first of all be no different at all than dragging people somewhere. If you have enough strength for that, you have enough to throw someone into the sea.
But if it's seen as too radical that being thrown causes instant death, then it should not cause instant death, rather you'd have a 50/50 chance or something like that of washing ashore at the nearest town, sans all your items and weapons (which go to the "bottomless pit" special location and can't be gotten out by players). The other 50%, respectively, would mean you died.
It's a cute idea to have stuff wash up at cities, but personally I don't understand why. When you cast stuff into the sea it sinks, it doesn't wash up at the nearest pitstop.
This would make ship decks a very dangerous place to hang around on with people you don't trust.
Edit: There is a problem though that a ship becomes like an instant-killing machine, where you drag your enemies undock and cast them overboard. We could make it impossible to cast anyone overboard as long as you are within docking range of any place.

To be honest Cogliostro, you'll never get something implemented that involves injury/death/losing resources-notes at sea. I can't sumarize that other thread for you, but the problem I see is one that will be 25% player resistance, 75% un-codability (someone stated why earlier)

I dont like your idea.
I do however like the idea of "underwater" as a location, perhaps with the use of a diving suit. One could gather resources, like shells, pearls and undersea fish, and other underwater things like oil. Could be done in large regions.
Although the ability to swim should really come first. Especially for the whole dragging people to sea thing...

Like the idea of stuff washing ashore when in a coastal village, you can become a beachcomber.
I personally think closest town could be abused, so maybe random to 1 of the maybe 3 closest towns, depening on the sea current/wind?. So not everything ends up in the same town.
You dont exactly know where your stuff ends up that way.
EDIT:
Iff people could be draged overboard, and instandly end up in a coastal town, you could get abuse too...
Imagine youself with friends on a boat with no food left... 1 stays behind and dies, others get thrown overboard and endup in towns...

You know that even a canoe is faster than a swimming person.. And it takes a canoe days to dock somewhere. Dragging someone overboard wouldn't even be hard, as most of the time they are dragged on board already.
Use the waves! I feel like I could swim on my back for a day or so.
