Convoy mode

Postby Cogliostro » Mon Aug 03, 2009 5:24 pm

An additional option for the "hit another person" screen, where it lists the percentages of force: "Convoy the person".

If selected, then instead of actually hitting, it does two checks. First, to see if the initiator character has a visible weapon and that the victim character has none. If the victim does have any weapon, then the attempt autofails. Second, a combat skill/ strength check and compares to the skill/strength of the victim character.

Supposing that is successful, the victim is placed into a "convoy mode", where they automatically follow wherever the initiator character goes, without dragging being needed. All this goes on for 1 Cantr hour, and then is automatically cancelled at the tick and needs to be re-applied if needed.

Most police and certain military forces are trained extensively in convoy methods that may not even require any weapon or string or cuff-type device at all. In Cantr I think it would be good to make it depend on the absence of weapons on the victim: to create situations where authorities demand the perp to drop their weapon, and then convoy them away if they cooperate, instead of the usual conspiracy of random whisperers who drag the perp away.

It would be an alternative means, to be used sometimes, with some cooperating perps, and would not affect or disable the current drag system.

I think it might make it a bit to easy for anybody to drag anybody not carrying a weapon around. Dragging although sometimes a little flawed in how many people to drag it is fair on the person being dragged because it gives them time to try and run.

In all fairness, if the perps are cooperating they help drag themselves anyhow...

Though this is a neat idea, of course it needs to be counterbalanced, I don't know if that would be by, for instance, limiting the amount of doors they can follow you through, affecting your tiredness, etc...and I'd probably laugh my ass off if one of my unarmed charri's was randomly convoyed somewhere while I was sleeping.

But, in our system, is this even possible to code?

This would be assuming that all characters are naturally sensible and have a sense of self-preservation. The truth is there are a lot of characters out there who do not fear nor feel pain, and they would not follow someone inside just because the person told them they'll get cleaved in half if they don't follow orders. Because the player is most likely thinking "if I do that, they'll never let me out and I'll end up starving to death or having to work on their projects while totally unable to pursue my goals, I might as well use any chance I get to remain free or die trying".
