That was my gist as well. About four general type of characteristics being hair darkness (not color) height, weight/body/etc. The rest of it, y'all can RP.

Taller than average.
Shorter than average.
Of average height.

Seems to have light hair. (Blond, pink, light brown or red, neon Green etc)
Seems to have dark hair. (Black, dark brown, deep red, blue dark, sage green etc)

The "extra stuff" is filled in by the players.

"Hey! You've got dark hair."
"Ain't it a gorgeous shade of purple?"

The "average" with height and body type lead to STILL let the player think on what "average" is.

I personally think average for a male is about 5'9" and for a female is about 5'5" but AGAIN that is up to the PLAYERS!

You get "shorter then average" could mean anywhere from 3'0" to 5'6" for a male.

etc etc etc... its all STILL up to player interpretation.

Same "bigger/plumper/whatever", could mean anything from "has baby fat" or a "pot belly" to "HOLY JEBUS THAT GUY IS FAT!!!"

Thinner could mean anorexic nasty to someone who is perhaps just a little underweight but not "sickly" Average would put most people at about 150-200lbs, respectively. This could also mean "average for their height" or "thin for their height" etc etc etc.

It should be implemented like skills - inherited rather than chosen.

Some things could be left to the players - like length of hairs, beard, etc.

Things to be inherited

1. Skin
2. Hair colour
3. Eyes colour
4. Height
5. Shape of face(?)

Things to be chosen

1. Beard
2. Moustaches
3. Lenght of hairs
4. Fatness ;)

That is too absurd BZR and will make people spawn suicide/starve characters cause they didn't "get what they wanted". People do that "as is" with skills etc.

Leave the choice LIMITED but NOT RANDOM and NOT genetics etc.

If you wanna play with genetics then implement birthing first and I'm a fan of neither.

I'm talking THREE SIMPLE choices.

THREE!!

Edit: Not to mention that if the "than average" thing is done you could "imply" genetics anyway.

They look short/fat/thing/etc, compared to others around them.

etc etc etc... I still want my choice! X|

I think it would be neat if people had a height and when they viewed other characters, it would say either

much shorter than you
somewhat shorter than you
about as tall as you
somewhat taller than you
much taller than you

and it would all be relative. Then if people of a certain nationality or a town were shorter than average, they would only realize it when coming in contact with outsiders.

Fatness is also somewhat relative (most girls visualize themselves as two sizes bigger than what they actually are). Imagine if it said

much skinnier than you
somewhat skinnier than you
about the same size as you
somewhat bigger than you
much bigger than you

then if someone lived among anorectics, they could imagine they were fat when they were just normal weight. It could say fatter or something instead of bigger. Since bigger could be related to height as well. But it couldn't say "heavier than you" since that's also related to weight.
