Modernist and posmodernist buildings, and castles

Postby Arlequin » Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:08 am

Some new buildings could be made out of steel and glass. Posmodernist buildings would include aluminium too. They would be very, very expensive overall and require several people working at once to advance, but once built expansions would be added very easily with some steel and wood.

At the buildings menu, these "modern-era" buildings would be listed always ahead of the "classic-era" buildings. So a business or city resourceful enough that can benefit of a building standing over the low suburbs may decide to invest in such a project.

A castle would be the only stand-ahead building made with classic-era resources, but it would need that 20 people work on it at the same time and some insane amount of stone and wood, like, 1000k + 200k (yeah, building it may consume resources from more than one location).

The purpose, obviously, is not to make castles and modern buildings common at all, but to make a lot of characters and several locations commit to the same project.

I like the idea of new buildings, but there are no way without programming to make a project that need a minimun amount of people working at the same time. Beside this, the idea is great.

Yes, I like this idea as well. That would be very interesting variety
and actually our cities would look different. :) but on the other hand it's not so necessary-we have possibility to name buildings like we wanna. So just as well we can name ordinary, stone buidlings as "castle" or "public baths".
But the idea is really interesting.

Indeed, the next step in upgrading the technology in Cantr would involve new types of architechture, but this would also have to involve new types of vehicles, clothing or even weapons to make it even across the Cantr world.

We don't need a "metal building." Just use a stone one.

Though skyscrapers and towers are nice.

We have been working on some new building types, using different materials for construction as well.

Postmodern?

Cantr's not even fully industrial yet.

Anyways, if the base suggestion is for more diversity in building materials - I'd be all for that.

Corrugated iron (and steel and aluminium) has, in various forms, been around for quite some time. I imagine in some areas, a wood and steel shack would be easier to put up than other buildings.
