short range transmitters

Postby viktor » Thu Nov 22, 2007 4:59 pm

time: 2 days
materials:
2 copper wires
small radio case (400 wood)
tools: pliers, screwdriver
location: building, not a vehicle
range: 15 pixils

reason: beacause some of us are eccentric and fancy and have reasons we want things,

Useful?

Maby only within the same location. Between different buildings. Or as a kind of doorbell.

I could see that being useful, especially with some of the gigantic buildings out there... I had a character with an estate of many rooms.. He often spent time writing in his study, which was further down off the main room, meaning it was unreachable for guests to knock on. A radio combination of cheap radios would have made things easier.

Then again, radios are a luxury. If you want lots of radios in a town, you had better be rich. What's the point of being loaded in cantr, if you can't show off your wealth?

rich yes but, for this radio we don't want people in neighbouring towns hearing it, right now i think the only town thaat can get away with using the medium transmitter for local puroses is basillica lol, trust me i do a lot of cantr tinkering on m comp and have a couple templates in reards to radio ranges over maps lol

Your suggestion has merit, though I fear people would misunderstand it. Communication between towns is unlikely with such a radio, but I think some people will assume that it is capable of reaching the next town over.

There has been talk in the staff forums about creating a handheld receiver or transceiver. I imagine such a transceiver would only be able to transmit on a more local scale.

Nice idea. though it's have to be renamed to something more indicative of a walkie talkie...

I would rather have the option of walkie talkies as portable radios.

haha, i was just talkin about a stationary smaller version of the medium transmitter but if we're getting tinto mobile wireless?
thatw ould probably require some sort of circuit board and gold wire inside the alloy casing? or is this version the 100 pixil range type? lol

I do aswell, it's an interesting hobby. I've even got a char or two trying to connect some areas with repeaters.

actually, a few minutes ago id ecided to see exactly what a 15 pixil radio range would look like on the map and found that some closely situated cities like the quillanoi area and the siom area, a couple forests in the blit/blojt/longinazy area, and the krif-djorf-drojf towns.
everywhere else is too far from eachotehr and would be soil a local radio. i mean, we have a 'medium' radio transmitter, must be a reason it's called medium eh?

good idea! :D
maybe made with iron wires which are not very conductive
the radio will weigh like 1000 grams
I can think of several characters that will use this

Why not have a stright out walkie-talkie then? Reaches 1 pixel and you carry it on you.
