I checked in wikipedia to see what makisu really is and turns out it's a mat made of bamboo. In Cantr it's made of wood and I suppose that's possible as well, but out of the resources we have available, I think reed would more resemble bamboo. It should also include yarn to keep it together, but string would be better, then hemp and silk could be used as well as cotton.
I wonder if anyone even makes sushi since it's so difficult in Cantr. So it should be some sort of an über-food. It's currently a weak daily food, maybe it would work better as a healing food, maybe even energy food as it can be technically produced on the English area, even though it requires gathering resources from opposite sides of an island (and trading between islands if makisu is changed into requiring reed). I mean since things like tea and coffee have not been discovered, it would be cool to have an energy food available, but if it was something hard to make and preferably required to be eaten fresh, that would balance things out a bit.

We could add a reed makisu, no problem. And another boost to sushi would be a good idea too. It can actually be a bit tricky to find all of the ingredients for it within proximity of each other. A nice regional food.
It would also be cool to convert the makisu to a transportable machine, like the kitchen table. Could be a nice food prep for sailors.

I throught the makisu was a tool? If it's a solid machine then people are in trouble. One thing I was thinking is that it would probably be possible to roll sushi by hand, but having a makisu would make it easier, thus speeding the process. But I assume it isn't possible to have manufacturing (or food making more precisely) projects to be improved by a tool, it's either mandatory or not used at all. I wonder why is that, when it is possible for resource gathering...
