Memorising people

Postby SekoETC » Thu Oct 19, 2006 8:39 pm

Currently if you rename sleepers or corpses and then leave town, there's no way of changing the names afterwards because you're not in the same location. It would be nice if you could in a way include a person in your events without doing something as blatant as to point at them.

To go even further, if you could memorise people's descriptions for a short period of time, you could just glance at people and then go write them down in a safe place. Yeah, you can copy stuff to notepad, but that's OOC means. It's also possible to use the back button to return to character descriptions while you're logged off. That's also an OOC method.

Mh, this is gonna get rejected, I just know it. You're gonna asy if you can't remember something as a player then your character can't either. But it's different reading text than actually seeing someone.

This ties in with someone's suggestion, (yours?) about a box for additional information alongside the char name. Of course you could put all this information in the char name, (up to 60 letters,) but I can't see any way of changing anything when you're in a different location, unless somehow there could be programmed a list of all the people you've ever met... meaning, in effect, that Cantrians would a faultless memory.

I must agree with you... it's gonna be rejected.

I like the first suggestion , that could be done, there is no problem writing the code for an event which is visible only to the character (cf eating )

I'd not make it an automatic event every time you look at someone, possibly another button so you actively have to add the person to your events.

The other is much more problematic , firstly I'd say using an OOC method such as copy and pasting to a notepad and then into an in-game note is not IMHO a problem . There could be a purist argument against for the same reason that many (inc. me) don't like events list copied verbatim into notes, but this can be done ingame as it is .

Alternative methods such as an auto-note feature where the description is transferred to an in-game note is really going to swamp the game, if you think theres a problem with old notes now , see what it's like when copies of everyones descriptions are stored so I'd not support an automatic (or semi-automatic) method like that - if people want to keep detailed notes they really should spend some time doing it .

There may be some scope in looking at the naming system . The current limit on dynamic names of 60 characters probably won't be changed - They are used and displayed in many places and extremely long names are just going to cause formating issues. There may be scope for including a further description field of up to 256 characters , visible and editable on the character description page only . Again there a system reasons for potentially limiting this and you still have notes for longer records .
