Draggable machines

Postby SekoETC » Mon Feb 20, 2006 10:19 pm

I think this may have popped up... wait, that was draggable projects. Anyway, but this is draggable machines. And I don't mean the big ones, like looms and stuff that doesn't even fit out of the bloody door, but things like salting barrels and spindles and other mid-sized equipment. They'd be like corpses, to heavy to pick up, too hard to carry, but you could roll them around inside a town, or if you got a car, you could move them from town to town  Moving vans! :D And you wouldn't have to worry about someone stealing them all the time since they couldn't walk away with them, and most thieves don't have vehicles. (If they do, they're called tyrants instead.) This would also allow manufacturing small scale machinery in a carpenter shop and dragging it to new owners' houses.

Wait... I'm sure there is a topic like this somewhere... Hmm, damnit.

Me likey. Although I don't see a problem with making even big machinery draggable.

This would allow machines to be outside that are not supposed to be outside (and on ship decks and vehicles), and conversely, it would allow machines inside that are only supposed to be outdoors (such as drying racks). It would create a large amount of problems for only marginal benefits, besides needing a significant amount of change in the code.

In polish forum we conceive the idea of doing this. But it's can be really problem. Now it's can be only dream...

Ech...

Sory for my broken englisch.

This isn't possible for a few reasons. Right now certain machines can only exist within a building and cannot exist outside of one. Also we have tried to have machines beingg carried and this doesn't work either and causes problem. So in order for this to work would mean for further programming and I'm not quite so sure if this is an easy thing to do or not.

There is a way to implement this: Attach and detach machines.

At the moment, machines and engines and such can be used just by existing in the location. We could have an attach and detach project for those. While attached, they can be used but not moved. While detached, they can be moved but not used. And a machine in use cannot be detached.
This would also prevent some machinery thievery if we set the detach project to last a day or two and send a event message when such project is started.

With this change, machines would be allowed to be made anywhere but could only be attached in a compatible location.

Anyway, this still means some programming, so I can't tell you if this would be a priority.

Plus not all machines should be movable or should require tools or more than person to move. If the rest doesn't require programming then most of that will.

Yes, you're right. But I guess implementing attach/detach projects would require even more work.

Oh, and I'm not saying I don't like the idea. I do actually but with the current state of the game it wouldn't work. And I'm pretty sure this would be a low priority on programmings list.

It actually would be pretty easy to do.

Just attach the thingymabob that allows people to be dragged to the machine, and attach it in the machine..... WITH the idea to have an attach/detach thingy. I think the name should be Assemble/unasembaled.
