Windows 98.

I've moved this topic here because it's not General Support, as it were.

Used 98 for a very long time and never ever switched to 2000. However, I'm now at last using a laptop with XP on it. It has DosBox installed to handle some old games and Firefox as browser.

I found the switch to XP on a HP laptop very unpleasant. Spent most of the first few days trying to stop some combination of Microsoft, HP's own software and the pre-installed virus software from interfering with me, spying on me, reporting to their own websites, using bandwidth when I hadn't authorized it or expected it, popping up windows when I didn't want them, and so on.

Computing of the sheep by the sheep for the sheep. Horrible.

I use Ubuntu 5.10 (or offshoots thereof) on all of my computers. Made the switch half a year ago - keep the XP partition on my main computer for the occasional tool that won't work with Wine.

XP. It's standard now here, and I don't mind it.

Why are you asking in such a stupid way?

You forgot

Linux
UNIX
OS/2 Warp
BSD
OS X
etc

and any number of other operating systems. To have an operating system "poll" and only have windows options is quite frankly insulting.

This really is a very incomplete poll - I doubt anyone is going to complain about the absence of OS/2, but OS X and Linux are fairly widely used. Add to that the way in which many Linux users have a visceral hate of Windows, and it verges on insulting.

But I don't think Portman7 cares - it seems to be a spam account. Look at the profile Web site and the obviously fake ICQ ID.

It is a spam topic / poster.

My inclination would just be to get everyone to spam-answer 'other' in reply...

Or ignore it.

Otherwise, as Sho said, it a border-line offensive post for us Windows haters...

I'm using win98 at the moment. But i have used Linux Red Hat. Had to switch when my old computer diden't accept Linux anymore. Can't figure out why...

But my heart belongs to Linux and not the virus program called Windows. :)

West, the point of a poll is to represent the major systems. He covered it fairly well. He has 70% of the population represented, which is respectable.

No, it's still discrimination.

If you didn't allow 30% of a state's population to vote because they were an ethinic minority, you wouldn't be able to say 'oh, it's ok, 70% of our population can vote'...

Aye, but this isn't about choosing the leaders and dictators of several of our laws and lives. This is about trying to find out which is the most used PC in a highly unscientific poll.

Big difference.
