Evil Genius'

Postby Coramon » Sun Feb 12, 2006 9:34 pm

Hitler was pure evil. I'm sure we can all agree on that. He genocided a large group of people, in the millions, but was he a genius? He turned his country from a democracy to a totalitarian dictatorship in a matter of months. That takes some brains. So was he an evil genius, and who were some other famous evil geniuses?

The one titled "results may vary"

He was evil, and i cant help but think that if the art world was slightly more advanced in its ways back then, the whole thing may have been avoided... i have seen some of his paintings, and they are rather good by modern standards.

Goebbels was more the genius...

And it was attempted genocide, he never actually succeeded. Unlike Mussolini.

Both were amazing orators. (excuse my spelling)

Hitlers speeches were works of art. Even if they did preach racial cleansing.

What? Jews are only about .2% of the worlds religions. It is estimated that they would be about 5 percent if it weren't for Hitler. A genocide isn't a total killing off, look up the definition. Its just killing a hell of a lot.

Evil is in the eye of the beholder...

as is genius...

Stalin was certainly no better, and in his way just as clever, he doesnt get the same attention...

Is Genius measured by outcome?

In my book, yes. You must succeed. That's what separates the clinically super intelligent from geniuses (is that a word?).

If you can use what you have to achieve results you might be smart, but not a genius in my book. A real genius knows what he/she can succeed in doing. If you have fool hardy plans like taking over the world you're either a genius or a fool with guts. If you take over the world. You are a genius. If you commit suicide in a bunker because you failed. You are a fool.

That's my 2 cents, but I'm a results oriented type of person.

That was worth more than 2 cents.

Pretty damn hidden then.

I think this assessment is scarily accurate (forget where i found it)

"George Bush is an incompetent surrounded by competent and malicious men."

It's not who you are in washington, it's who you know. Bush could be a stuffed rat and the country wouldn't be any different. The real power in his administration doesn't sit in the oval office.

"Systematic destruction of a race, religion etc."
The systematic destruction of the Jews would require their utter destruction. Hitler, thank (insert subject of readers worship here), didn't succeed.

Incorrect. Genocide doesn't need to be totally successful to be "systematic destruction"; Hitler went about the destruction of the Jews, the Roma, etc. in a very systematic manner, targetting them directly. That is genocide, regardless of whether he killed ten thousand, six million, or every single one.

The same reason we like to play the hero. It's something we either wouldn't, or couldn't, do in real life. Escapism is wonderful.
