The axes are conceptually independent. It is possible for people to be in any quadrant, and some are in each. However, in a topic on another forum, this same Political Compass showed almost everyone lining up on the green-blue diagonal. (See below.) If that is seen here and more generally, I think that is a reflection of the times. For example, after Communism's disastrous run, the red quadrant is sparsely populated. 80 years ago, you would find quite a few people in the red quadrant.

I found the point "It's a sad reflection on our society that something as basic as drinking water is now a bottled, branded consumer product." especially hard to answer. If I want just plain water (that is, without sparkles) I open the tab and there it is. If I had to buy it bottled I'd indeed be bothered by it, so that's the answer I gave, but I still find it odd.

I think the question is not that you have to buy it, but rather that you have perfectly good water coming out of the tap, and you want to buy it. That's how I took it.

Oh, my mistake. Yes, that would be okay I suppose.

I did this when I first read this thread five years ago or so. I doubt it has changed much.

With the tap water question, I grew up in a relatively small city, 911,000 odd people, and there used to be drinking fountains everywhere, during the 90's they were just about all removed and vending machines sprang up in their place. Given it's a tropical city it's not impossible to drink five liters in a day, and adults should drink at least two.

There are two million in the city now, and something that I grew up taking for granted as being free and convienient could cost $30 a day.

I finally did this... I'm a bit surprised myself about the results I got.

Why, what did you think you should be? Keep in mind, this is made for US people (I think). Europeans are more liberal coming out of the womb.
