Adventures in Power juice diets

Postby Psycho Pixie » Mon Nov 21, 2005 6:11 pm

so I have been sick alot lately, and my mom, health freak that she is, suggests a total juice diet, to "let my body recover".. not to mention this sort of diet helps a person drop about a pound a day. nice perk to getting the body back to normal right?

Rule # one, learned by accident.... a teeny tiny chunk of onion, will make a 16 oz. drink taste like raw onion. YUCK. good for you, but total yuck.

rule# two, resist all cravings. Do you know how hard it is to get through 2 days, let alone longer, without screaming for a nice juicey rare steak? ohhhh.. chocolate..... kill me now!

by all means, add your thoughts. lol

pixie
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

LMAO!!

Are you getting better? You better be!!!

I've been sick for a while too, but I'm just taking medicenes.. They suck, I really don't like pills, I can't swallow them, so I chew them then swallow them with water... They're not very tastey, I'm warning you..

My boyfriend says the best way to get rid of this stupid cold is to drink hot lemon juice with two teaspoons of honey... Twice a day.

I never tried it, but I think it does make you get better...

I also have difficulties swallowing pills, particularly if they immediately taste very bitter. My trick: stuff them into a piece of banana or black bread.

For colds I was recommended hot milk with honey, particularly before going to bed. In particularly bad cases, take Wick MediNait just before sleeping. Two effects: you get to sleep pleasantly the whole night through, which will already make you feel better and give your body a better chance to recover, and it also contains medicine against the cold. Just be sure to be ready to sleep as soon as you have drunk it, because it really makes you very numb and sleepy. In any case you shouldn't be driving for a few hours afterwards because it contains a lot of alcohol. Tastes horrible too.

Vitamin C

I would drink some Odwalla C monsters whenever I got a cold. They are a juice smoothie thingy that have 1000% the daily recommended value of Vitamin C. A few of those and the cold is burnt out. And the are all nummy and taste like orange juice, so you won't usually have a problem taking them.

Once you're better, Zinc is supposedly a good thing to make you more resistant to getting the cold in the first place.
Reality was never my strong point.

Get well soon Pixie :)

(Although this 'total juice' thing seems a bit weird to me - the last thing you want to do when you're ill is starve your body - you'll need more energy sources than usual...)

As remedies for colds?
All the 'traditional' remedies revolve around the same three things that your body needs when you have a cold (or any over similar virus)

Sugar:
You'll need sugar as your body will be weak, fighting off a virus.
This is best in a 'natural' form - no chocolate, fizzy drinks, candy etc. Natural forms are much easier for your body to absorb, so lots of naturally sweet things such as sweet fruits and honey

Fluids:
When you have a cold, you produce a lot of phlegm. This can be dehydrating. It's best to drink lots of water, not fizzy drinks.

Vitamin C:
Hence the constant suggestions of lemons and oranges, this helps boost your immune system, and fend off the cold faster.

Hence suggestions such as lemon drinks with honey - all three in one :)
Whoever you vote for.

The government wins.

Taste is an impulse which you can completely ignore if you have the will
