Hope no one planned on visiting New Orleans anytime soon, it's about to be wiped off the map. For anyone that doesn't know, there's a 180mph hurricaine about 17 hours from landfall there.

I heard about that in the radio but gosh, is it really gonna be totally wasted? O_O;

The news is saying that New Orleans could be submerged for months underwater or even left unhabitable forever.

Now one thing I don't get is why they are have 30,000 people in the superdome which can sustain 130 mph winds when Katrina is going to hit with the fury of 170 mph winds. But I guess that is the last place or last resort.

I really have a bad feeling about this one. I think this is the big storm of this century. They are saying it is the most powerful storm in recorded weather history.

It is a Category 5 Hurricane. It is like the hand of God on Earth for a lack of a better description.

Imagine, 170 mph winds with gusts of up 200 mph with storm surge over 30 feet, flood waters over 30 feet and rain falling with 4 or 5 inches an hour. That is what New Orleans and the surrounding area is about to be hit by.

Have people left New Orleans? Has it been evacuated?

Or at least if you're planning a vacation there after then, you'll have to be willing to pay for lakeside property.

Not everyone. There are still upwards of 100,000 or more people in the city. It would be impossible to completed evacuate that many people in that little of time. That is millions of people within a 24 hour notice. Katrina was only a Category 1 storm yesterday and was looking to hit the Floridia Gulf Coast.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) says the worse case scenario has losses of 15 to 30 billion dollars and loss of human life in the 1,000s if this storm continues on its course and does not weaken.

The news just had a weather expert from the National Westher Service and you can tell by the way he is talking that this is the big one. He simply put it, if you haven't left New Orleans or the surrounding area by now then you're in big trouble.

Well this sucks.... and right after I rejoined too. My reserve unit has been activated, we are headed there after it is done hitting.

We are spending the next week and a half or so training. Wish me luck guys

This is scary *shudders* I mean, I get scared when I hear thunder or when I see lightning.. So imagine if I was in the middle of a big hurricane like this katrina one.. *shudders again*

Dee, you want to see what a Hurricane is like then watch this video on this site. Those are only Category 3, 2 or 1s. Katrina is a Category 5 so think of those about 100 times worse.
