Single European Cows - Stop the madness!

Postby formerly known as hf » Mon Jul 04, 2005 7:58 pm

Under the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) of Europe - every single cow in Europe gets $2.50 a day - less than many whole families in the global south get paid in a week. Whatsmore - this money goes straight to the farmer's account - with no checks to make sure it gets paid on the cows.

Well done (for once...) to TB for (finally) bringing the madness of the CAP into direct question

Muggabi? What's he ever done to you to warrant such hostility....Poor Robert....Never harmed a soul....

I have to say I agree with you though, farmer. The cows should get the money.

Its Mugabe...

And CAP? Don't get me started on CAP...

EDIT: I wonder if that would create a profitable new market? All these cows with money to burn... Intriguing, no?

Seriously, how are those cows supposed to get their fur styled and hooves polished so they can attract the bull(s)? That totally sucks.

And maybe they would like to go to Starbucks once in a while just to relax. Have those damn, theiving, evil farmers ever though about that? I doubt it.

?

I'd rather neither the cows nor the farmers got my money. I'm not too happy in knowing that my taxes get sent over to some smelly French guy just for owning some stinky cow...

And you think the cost of rearing a cow is less than £2.50?

no

but why should they be given money? They produce something (milk/meat) they get paid for it by selling it - why should they get extra, just because they have cows?

Guess where the heighest suicide rate was in the uk four years ago. Cumbria. Why, foot and mouth.

Have you ever seen a rich farmer?

So why is it the french are given greater ammounts of money than the Brittish farmers? They are also given the same ammount of money to not grow things on arable land. Brittain uses satelites to check on our farmers making sure they don't. The French get more money and still use the land anyway.
