I'll find out if it is any good and then steal their good ideas and bring them over here.

I think it's free but it seems like the graphics are up to par to Everquest II and World of Warcraft. And those cost a lot of money to play over time.

The funny part about this game is that you can take real life money (your money) and convert it into your character's money or vice versa. :? That is really weird.

But I can say one thing; for a free game the graphics are freaking amazing.

Jos, are you sure you don't want to do something similiar to this?

I looked at it and it (the game itself) might be free, but it looks like it takes real money to buy equipment and other things.

[edit - beat to the above info.]

No, you can gain money in the game by killing monsters. They just give you the option of using your real life money. It just seems like weird way of doing this.

I watched the 'infomercial' and it looked like it took real life money to 'buy passage' to the game world.

That doesn't seem to be the case so far for me. I'll keep playing and see what happens and report back.

Entropia is not quite similar to Cantr ;) ... I played it for a month or so earlier this year. The graphics are really really cool and if you want to know what I dream of as Cantr in the future - in terms of graphics - you should indeed look at Entropia ;) ... But, although I was addicted for a few days, and played all day, in Entropia, it gets boring very quickly, I think. Cantr you can play for years each day a little bit; Entropia you can play all day, but gets boring after a while.

What I don't like, which why I say it doesn't look like Cantr, is that everything is predefined in the game. Even the exact organisation of societies is predefined, as are shops, the economy, etc. Politics are virtually absent. Who wins or loses a war is determined by the computer, based on the societies, not like in Cantr where this is much more complicated and realistic.

But I wish I could develop a game with the game dynamics and societies of Cantr in a user interface as Entropia's :) ...

And in Entropia you can play for free, but it's no fun ;) ... I deposited just 15$ and that was enough to play nicely for quite a long time - but you need to deposit a little bit to get started.

They probably generate enough money on the basis of the money deposited, so that they are able to fund the whole system. At least, that is what I think. And remember, they control everything related to earning money (for instance, as I understand, the amount of animals which can be killed for money).
So they can/must make sure that more money (including interest on deposited money) gets into the system then that is redrawn from it and that they have at least as much money in the bank as there are available PED's in game.

It takes forever to update. I started to update it at 9:30 am and now it's 1:12 pm, and still needs more than 9 hours :?

I saw that before,
then saw the 'change your real money in entropia money' or whatever...

That really put me off - I always find, that in any game where donating directly benifits you personally, the game becomes unbalanced...

On a similar note, a game I do play (Cypher, currently in beta) introduced a payment system similar to the 'extra minutes for all' suggested for Cantr - people can donate to buy 'turns' - but the extra turns get added for everyone...

Yes, Entropia of course makes money just on interest on deposited money ... but much more than that. They also run 'shops' inside the game, thus you buy your characters' clothes in fact with real money ... They definitely can make loads of money, especially if you consider the enormous amount of players. They also sell property in the game, which can go into thousands of dollars ... And for them there is virtually no cost in adding a building ;) ...

I never read your suggestion of minutes for all, Nick, it sounds interesting :) ...

Anything similar to cantr but free(unlike Entropia) and graphical(unlike cantr), something like cantr was when it first arrived. Badly balanced and under construction.
